It is interesting how they came up with the speed in a short barrel. It Seen's like they came up with what they wanted. A rifle in a 20 inch barrel able to send a bullet as fast as a 7mm rem mag with a 26 inch bbl. To appeal to those using a suppressor. I am not going out to buy 1 any day soon. My hunting is now in wide open desert, open plains, light timber. My 7mm Weatherby 26 bbl and 9 inch suppressor looks odd but works just fine.

The 7mm Broke-Backcountry was dead upon its conception! Think very short barrel life, bad accuracy, and not feasible to reload.
I predict once Federal drops the cartridges (within 4 years) from their product line, in order to continue shooting the rifles one would have to switch to brass, of which will not hold the higher pressures. Right back to where they where before having fell for a niche item in the first place. At the price of the ammo no one will be blasting away with it at the range, to the point the cartridge boxes will sit on the shelves too long for the manufactures taste, whereby they will not only drop it from their line of products but will have an accident whereby the Broke-Backcountry assembly line will be destroyed for the insurance money to recouple from this debacle. And voilà the 7mm Broke-Backcountry enters the Dodo's abode.

I agree with kmoore's comment. They had to run the pressure way up while using powders fast enough to burn in a 20" barrel. Not something I'm interested in. :devilish: :oops:

Sounds loud.
Hence the notion for using a suppressor. They say short barrel so you can use one and still be about 26-28 inch barrel. They don't want to advertise it might be 2x as loud as a 7mm rem. mag. (I really have no idea how loud it will be without a suppressor. Just really damn loud might be appropriate) Wait 2-3 years to see if hunters want one or not. Then we can say winner or loser.

No need to wait a couple of years to comment on this one. I say it's dead on arrival. I'll be surprised if they sell ONE. It should sell about as good as the new .21 rimfire.

Oh, they'll sell some to those 'dudes' who have to own the 'next best thing' to show off.
I see it more of a gimmick of sorts whereby trying to be the fastest with a shorter barrel. And yes they will definitely sell some to people with lower IQs for sure.
The May issue of Shooting Times magazine has a well-done article on this new round. Be skeptical all you like, I believe we have only seen the beginning of this technology. JMHO YMMV :)
Using steal cases is not new technology. And there is a reason that it hasn't taken off in the past within the private sector. This so-called newest technology was developed for the military so are they using it, or did they reject it. So far, I haven't been able to find where the military is implementing it. So it looks as if Federal is seeking to recoup its research investment by trying to sell it to the private sector. Only time will tell how hard the civilians will bite this bait laid before them. Personally, I'll be sticking with brass myself.

5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum anyone? I knew a guy who had a Remington Model 592 tube fed bolt action rifle in that caliber and he turned it in during a gun buyback because he couldn't get ammo for it.
