Have you ever wondered why it is said that someone is "under" arrest? Under signifys beneath something. So the saying is that the person is beneath arrest. Can you be above arrest? Like the tabloid says: "inquiring mind's want to know". :roll:

FYI, when the word "under" is used as a preposition (as in "under arrest"), it means (among other things) subject to the authority, control, guidance, or instruction of whomever/whatever.
