Just got back from the dr's office/lab for annual blood draw for my medical exam. I sat in the LARGE waiting room with about 50 people. Almost everyone of them was busily interacting with their 'smart' phone....literally the whole time each of them was on line or sitting/waiting. I always wonder.... what the hell are they doing on that thing? I doubt that they are busy at work duties; but maybe they are? Any ideas..???

I used to always have a book to read, and or a puzzle book to work at. No point sitting doing nothing.

Phones can be used for good, or be a waste of time. Up to the user.


If it were me sitting there, I’d probably be here on RF, ebay, or playing cribbage on my phone. I also keep folders of things I want to study and learn in my photos. Kind of like flash cards. Not to mention music TV shows movies. Endless possibilities.

If I'm waiting to have something done and I know it's going to be a while, I do crossword puzzles or play solitare or some other thinking type game on my phone.

I generally play Sudoku or Solitaire to kill time. Generally at Kirk Army Pharmacy there is a waiting period. They call your number, then verify your information, and then there is a wait. They normally do not fill a prescription until you physically arrive to pick it up so there is normally about 30 minute wait till you are called a second time.

I have several doctors and some take me in right away and others make me wait to be taken to the examining room where there's usally another good 45 minute wait. Doc comes in and asks how am I feeling and I say fine, listens to my heart for about two breaths then says, I'll see you again in three month, all that then have to kick out a $50 copay. Grrr! BTW, that's my cardiologist.

When I go to do lab work the day before it’s usually in and out. But the doctors office i’ll check in and the weight is usually 25 -35 minutes waiting to be called back and then another 10 minutes until he comes into the room. He’s my same age and he’s a big sportsman & fishing. We sometimes talk about fishing or hunting and then he looks over my medicines, verifies they’re all being taken, and if there’s anything extra, he needs to approve. Gets me up on the table thumps me in the chest. Listen to my heart makes me breathe real heavy, grabs my legs and my knees and feels for any swelling asked me how I’m feeling. We discussed my issues if there is any and then it gives me a three month appointment to come back. I feel pretty good most of the time because I can talk to him and he’ll answer questions.

I totally agree the phart phone is the fatal distraction of man. Grouch Attack sits for hours doing something (games/social/???) with hers. Yesterday, during an afternoon of mechanic work and loading out a planter headed for Kansas, no doubt I saw Grandson pull out his phone at least 50 times.
I was satisfied with a flip phone mostly as a safety net due to age and working in remote areas. Then I got promoted and a phart phone was required--for increased connectivity they said. My new hearing aids required another phone upgrade for connectivity (don't be fooled by that, cause it doesn't work all that well BTW). Now, I'm carrying a portable computer in my pocket with no interest in it's potential and it doesn't make/receive calls any better than my old Motorola Quantico.
