I have a neighbor 2 miles southwest of me who has a herd of about 75 Buffalo. About 10 years ago one of his cows gave birth to twins and would only nurse one of them. He or his wife and daughters had to bottle feed it 4 times a day. I had been to our township meeting and he is one of the township officers and I told him I was in need of some burger. He always has 2 chest freezers full of burger in his shop building. He said come over and get some, his prices are very fair. When I arrived he asked if I would like another pet. I asked what do you mean? He then showed me this Buffalo bull calf almost 3 feet tall! I asked how old it was, he responded 24 hours!! I told him I'd have to talk to my wife first before I could commit to taking him. I asked if I could bring my wife over to check him out, he said yes, so I bought the burger that I had come for and took it home. After I got home I told my wife about the calf and before I could ask if she was interested, she said "I want to see him!" We arrived just in time to watch their 10 years old daughter climb into his pen and bottle feed him 1/2 gallon of milk replacer which he downed in about 1 minute!! My wife said she wanted him and would be happy to come over and relieve the girls from the feeding chores if they needed a break. When we got home I phoned my neighbor and told him we would take him. He said sorry, but my girls had fallen in love with him and had named him Curly! I told him if this situation happened again we would take the abandon one. Unfortunately that has not happened again. They are my favorite animal bar none.
