Aqualung
Blackhawk
It's been awhile since I posted anything significant here, as I'm only checking in and lurking most days.
Well, it's not been a good few months for us in the Aqualung family.
We never had kids, going for the four legged variety of the feline persuasion.
Well, we lost Daisy on the day after Thanksgiving. She'd been having some issues, but bouncing back...the proverbial trooper. For years, she held off diabetes, taking her insulin shots twice a day without complaint. Then, near the end, she seemed to have beaten it because we'd had to stop giving it to her completely.
But she'd began losing her appetite and started slowing down and was breathing really hard. Thanksgiving week, she really pretty much stopped eating. My wife was at her parents' in Maryland and I told her I was taking Daisy to the vet on Friday. She came up and got home just as we were set to go for the appointment.
At the appointment, the x-rays showed that our little girl's lungs we full of fluids and her heart was enlarged. There was nothing that could be done that could have made her better. We made the hard choice and she was gone at 4:30.
Daisy - Our little girl
That left her brother, Sarge.
He was helping us all cope with the loss. We comforted each other and he kept the emptiness filled.
Then, almost two months to the day (one day short), from Daisy's passing, we lost Sarge...suddenly, unexpectedly and tragically.
He'd been playing with his catnip mouse, like normal. He suddenly jumped up like he startled himself (not unusual), then ran. He hit the leg of a chair we have in the living room and then bolted for the kitchen. My wife got up and went into him to see if he was ok or if he'd hurt himself on the chair leg. She found him hunched on the floor and when she picked him up, he stiffened and cried out. By that time I got there and he was fading, right in my wife's arms. He stopped breathing and that was it...in less than two minutes, he went from playing with his toy and being our loveable, goofy Sarge, to gone. To say we are absolutely devastated is an understatement.
Our boy, Sarge:
They loved to help:
Along with the fact that we lost my wife's sister in July, it's been a pretty crappy 12 months.
Hanging in there, but with some big holes in our hearts.
