Today we had a meeting to discuss Chrysler’s plans to be fully electric by 2035 to comply with the lefts green agenda. It seems as though the federal government defines any hybrid vehicle as “electrified” which meets their criteria. To put this into perspective the RAM Truck’s E-Torque system qualifies, that means that a truck that runs on gasoline 100% of the time qualifies as what the media is calling “electric”. Your gonna see some cool stuff that falls into this category when it comes to super cars, imagine a Vette with a 600 hp engine and a transmission with an electric drive unit inside that adds 400 hp to it. It’ll sound and feel like a V8 but have monster rear wheel horsepower and get decent fuel mileage. The media is not telling the full story when it comes to electrification but it looks like full electric will remain a niche market if they even survive.
 
One thing I forgot, a hilarious option will be available on the RAM Revolution EV truck. It will come with 300 miles max range...but...you can get a 500 mile max range option...it will include a gasoline generator to extend range...now that's funny 😂 😂 😂
 
I want to see the towing range of a half-ton pickup, fully electric, pulling a 6,000 pound travel trailer. 50 miles?
 
I'd like one, but get a hold of me when batteries go
1000 miles on a charge in -30 degree weather in the
dead of winter, and be able to recharge the battery
in 15 minutes after checking on the cattle or
driving across the State. Also the Company
has to take ownership of the worn out battery.

Plus I don't think our economy is doing to bad if people
can pluck down $80,000+ for an Electric Vehicle.
 
I tell my wife the same thing about e trucks. When they have one I can hook the three horse trailer behind with mules and gear then drive across the state for a November cow elk hunt from our end of road camp then back home without stopping who knows how many times to recharge, I will look at one. Until then, they are not in the table for my use.
 
Try electrifying one of these.... Another hospital in the system I work for has been told that they have to replace any boilers with a 100% electric replacement. The grid is not able to support what is there now not to mention the added load. This is a 50 year old 500 horsepower dual fuel boiler using natural gas or #2 fuel oil. The generators for the hospital are 5 diesel units with a combined KW of 2600. A local school district purchased 3 new electric school busses and found out that on a 0° degree day that they are unable to complete 1 run not to mention the 2 or more runs that a bus might be required to do in a day. I seriously wonder what these politicians are thinking with because they sure don't have a brain...

Like to see one take me from home to the Cape Cod house without a charge (413 miles). Forget about my place to Contenders (530 miles roughly). I like to drive at night and fly low. Can't do that electrically. I don't want to have to find a charging port in the dark.
 
We don't see many EV's in farm country. I have seen a couple in the nearest bigger town/smallish city--they have a college there so all the liberal college prof's may get onboard the EV train.
 
The E-Ray is here but they put the electric motors on the front wheels -

A friend works at a Ford dealer. They have 16 full electric F150 Lightnings in stock. ZERO buyers. They took one to auction just to reduce inventory. They dropped the price to 62 grand from the 100+ thousand retail sticker - no takers. I suggested they sell it for retail and throw a 20,000 Maverick in for free - they haven't sold one of those yet for under 40.

I've heard the Dukes will be back in an EV soon....

I really like the Hybrid Ford Fusion my wife bought... the technology is really cool. but then my wife keeps calling it an electric car and I have to keep reminding her it actually runs on gas that then charges the semi-big battery that runs the electric engine most of the time while in town... it does get 42mpg constantly... But I do wonder how we are going to deal with the ever increasing demand for electricity... but you know the answer is we will figure it out.... this is America...

Oh, one of the funny things is even with the battery charged in the Winter if you turn on the heat the gas engine has to run at least on and off some.
I wonder how one gets heat in a totally electric car... I guess there is either electric strip heating or maybe they have a heat pump built in... like a mini-mini split?

The Lightning towing capability is well documented, towing cuts about 50% of your range, cold weather can take another 20%...those trucks are useless when being used as trucks.
 
I am no expert but this is common knowledge. Electric vehicles are much cleaner and that is the point. 70% of CO2 in the US is produced by vehicles. Transition to electric vehicles will be pretty easy for power companies because most charging is done during off peak hours. If you don't like or want an electric vehicle you don't have to get one.

Just like with solar for your home it is going to happen and you can participate or not.

Didn’t Carol Shelby have a design for a vehicle that used a drive system like a railroad locomotive? A small gasoline generator producing power to run a traction motor? As I recall, fuel economy was outrageous for the time.

$42,000 to put solar and a power wall on my home, my average electric bill is $75 a month so the system would break even at the 47 year mark. A full EV that would replace my PZEV SUV would cost me $25,000 extra up front and an extra $800 per year to operate(oil changes and gasoline included), plus a PZEV is far better for the environment that any BEV. Do your research, you need to know what a BEV, PHEV, HEV, and PZEV are before you can talk about environmental impact. The point of this thread is that it IS going to happen, just not the way most people think. Remember in the original post, according to the new standards a RAM truck with the E-Torque system qualifies as an electric vehicle even though it runs on gasoline 100% of the time, I don't see BEVs ever being more than 2% of the cars on the road, if they don't solve the battery replacement cost problem they will go away completely.
 
The current EV technology isn’t up to the tasks required by working vehicles. This is easy to see as most have pointed out with EV pickup trucks. While the effect on the civilian population is more of a nuisance, the real problem will be trying to electrify agricultural equipment and military equipment. Farmers run tractors, combines, and other equipment many hours per day with little time for recharging which will slow down production. Less production means fewer products sent to market.. The effect on military equipment will create a host of problems due to the heavy demands required, hours of use required and recharging logistics. The effect could be devastating, particularly so, if our adversaries are not bound by the restraints of EV power. I believe that the U.S government’s rush to mandate it’s green agenda is costly, premature and possibly dangerous.
 
Politicians figure that they will legislate mandatory change to all electric homes and vehicles and the technology will catch up. It reminds me of the old adage.... crap in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up faster. Electric farm and military equipment makes absolutely no sense at all. Perpetual motion anyone?
 
our local ford dealer is shutting down . Ford told them they would have to sell X amount of electric vehicle or pay a 3million dollar penalty . To ford the owner said he could not do it . Closing the doors in 2 weeks

I see you drank the KoolAid. EVs are not cleaner. Yes when going down the road an EV is "zero emissions". But where did that power come from? A majority of US power comes from burning natural gas and coal - both of which cause pollution to the point that the left has demanded the US stop drilling and mining. Also to produce an EV car is a very dirty process mining and refining the battery elements is done offshore so the US can claim it's clean. You won't find battery disposal in the US either that is farmed out to China and India - the 2 biggest polluters in the world. Also take into account the materials used. Copper is expensive and an EV uses a lot ot it. Pennies are no longer copper because the value of a copper penny would be less than the material it's made out of. Manufacturers love the EV because they know when you're hit with a battery replacement bill at around 100,000 miles you'll opt to buy a new one. As for your off peak charging thoughts CA just last year asked people not to charge their cars even off peak due to high demands weather was placing on the grid. That will only get worse. I had a Chevy Volt for purely selfish reasons - bought it for $8,000 - could use the carpool lane alone and for free - could charge at work for free and could make the round trip on one charge - that was the high. Then CA eliminated the free car pool since there were more single passenger EVs using it than carpoolers. At 110,000 the battery would only go about 30 miles down from almost 60. CA made a law that GM would have to warranty the battery to be 100% for 150,000 miles so replacement should be warranty. GM basically thumbed it nose and said we won't honor the agreement because ALL the cars would need a free battery. I can be done but you need to pay for the battery replacement out of pocket then file a complaint with the state who will hold a hearing and determine that it should have been a warranty claim and order GM to refund your money. GM will let you take them to court to get your money. It's not small claims so you'll need to hire an attorney. So do you want to gamble money on a battery and an attorney? I didn't sold it on to the next EV sucker for $3,800 - I actually made a couple hundred since .gov have given me back $5,200 of the cash I had spent on the car in the first place.
Now ask yourself one simple question - has .gov ever had the right answer?

PS - 100% of the CO2 emissions in the world are removed by 100% of the plants and trees in the world- which produce oxygen as a byproduct. Yes there are some other methods to remove it but currently it's used for less than 1%.

A friend works at a Ford dealer in Nevada. They have 16 electric F150 Lightnings in stock and no buyers. They took one with a sticker price of $102,000 to the auction. After dropping the price to $62,000 there were still no buyers. Ford is basically dead. Putting the 5th generation of the Ford family on the board has certainly helped kill it. I'm sure the ggc grand daughter of Henry with a history in fashion and a short stint on the board of the failing Rivan EV company qualifies her to make decisions at Ford. Henry Ford III at least has an MBA - Ford sent him to sell cars at their biggest dealer Galpin in CA where he wanted to be called Henry Ford to boost his chances of a sale.
 
Blue Oval City near me will be the biggest vehicle factory in the world to produce electric EVs. But guess what? They stated a few weeks ago the whole place can be converted to make gas powered F-150’s In a short time if need be.

That reminds me of a couple of pics I've seen recently on the web. One was a Honda pulling a trailer with a generator on it. Another was a Toyota on the side of the road with the hood up. It was plugged up to a generator sitting beside it.😎.

I’m still waiting for the day actual range numbers are mandated on the window sticker. The Lighting is a cautionary tale about what happens when the truth gets out, it became common knowledge quickly that a Lightning being used as a truck in cold weather barely goes 60 miles while 230 is what‘s advertised. This is unacceptable, disingenuous, and if it were an ICE car it would be illegal.

going on I see more huge problems.

There is now documented proof EVs are
starting on fire all by themselves. They
burn hotter and take a lot more to put
out.

My question is; who is going to flip the bill
for a huge forest fire by someone in an EV
Pickup out in the middle of nowhere. Will
it be the Manufacture, the Owner, or Tax payer.

What about toppling over Parking Garages
due to their heavier weights.

I believe these are liability issues that will
eventually have to be addressed.
 
The company I work for is using the Ford Lightning for some of its company trucks. They actually pay to have a charging station installed at the homes of the foremans that use them. One of them lives a little ways North of me. Recently he had to go to Hawkinsville which is about 100 miles South of here. He said the lightning on a full charge says it has a range of 220 miles. He also said after driving it 20 miles it says it has enough charge left to make it 175 miles. The day he had to go there he left the truck home & drove his personal vehicle.

I honestly believe if electric vehicles were as great as the politicians that are pushing them say they are it would not be necessary for the government to try to push them on us. The free market would lead us to them. They are not ready for prime time. The politicians pushing this on us don't care how much damage they do to our country.
 
Came back from the beach yesterday loaded down with gear including a cargo basket hanging off the back of my wife's Ford Fusion hybrid. It's a hybrid and is supposed to get better gas millage around town than on the open road... well, seems the experts missed on that one... same and the amazing thing is only a .2 -.4 miles per gallon difference (note the 'dot' in front of the numbers) with that big basket hanging off the back. We got 40mpg coming and going. My only complaint so far with the car is there is no spare tire... just a special pump that has a switch that is suppose to fix the flat.... I would not bet on it.... the interesting thing is it is stored in what looks like a wheel well for a real spare tire.... looks like that might be on my list.

I think electric is the future... right now they are designed for just around town driving but will probably expand to a degree.... hybrids are way over engineered... but that is the nature of the car industry and has been for the last 40 years or so.
