I think that when tax incentives, and rebates go away, so will passenger electric vehicles (EV's)

EV bikes? They'll be around for a while, then when all the fat kids who use them instead of walking get obese and health problems... we'll see the fallout.

Now motorcycles capable of being ridden at highway speeds with decent range that can be charged at home and optionally with solar? I'll be a buyer, but right now the range is insufficient for me.

The son of a friend I mentioned who is a computer geek and likes his electric Beemer... does not like the hybrids, he says they are way too complicated....

My daughter has a 2005 Prius, it's been problem free except for the computer dying but that's to be expected.

Most all makes can use Telsa Superchargers now. We have a pretty large capacity double bay charger for public use at work (GM dealer) and everything under the sun comes to charge except GM vehicles.

The young computer geek I mentioned who had a Beemer Electric just traded it in for a used Tesla... go figure.
So far we really like the Hybrid Ford Fusion my wife bought but we only drive it around town and in retrospect should have just gone total electric.... we did take it to the beach two years go... contrary to what the specs say it got the same gas milage on the big highway as in the city... 'they' say it should get better milage in the city. but is pretty much 42mpg either way.

I would not mind having an all electric if I could drive from my home to Contenders (550 miles), with one ten minute stop for a pit stop and refuel. Unfortunately there isn't any EVs that can do that. For all our normal driving an EV would be no problem. I just don't want to need two cars...one for long distance driving and one for local.

Kevin.... Johnnu2 here . You're right about me, but I'm 81 and can easily keep my two JAP cars running to when I hit 100 (then, I plan on using taxi's). ANYWAY, here's my take on the TARGET MARKET:
1) the top 2% $$$$ because a) they must keep up with the Jones'; b) they relish the various tax breaks (even tho they certainly don't need them); c) it shows everyone that they are enlightened, and liberal; d) service cost is of no relevance to them; neither is inconvenience because they are insulated from inconvenience by the amenities their money provides; d) they have no concern about who will dispose of their batteries; and certainly don't allow recycling yards near their neighborhoods.
2) the YEWT... they were raised teething on electronics and haven't lived long enough to become jaded (or frightened at the potential dangers of letting a machine take over their responsibilities). They were NOT raised learning how to take care of their possessions and have learned that there are 'people' for that. They've also not learned that the people they have to take care of their stuff really don't do as good a job as they would do (if they knew how).
I DO love the idea at the real (and potential) 0-60 stats of EV's; sadly, those that belong in that market probably have never felt the (daily) joy of a full 'pedal to the metal' 0-100 acceleration.
Personally, I'm fine with ALL that because I'm able to insulate myself from all of it (unless some lady runs me over in Whole Foods parking lot because I'm half deaf and didn't HEAR her coming at 40mph in said lot in order to make it on time to her riding lessons... .
