Educate me, please..............

I was watching the TV show Wheel of Fortune last night and one of the puzzles was "Dribbling a soccer ball."

O.K. I know what dribbling a basketball is, but what about a soccer ball? Is the moving of the soccer ball by moving it downfield with one's feet called dribbling?

Soccer was not known when I was coming up in school. I was exposed to it while I was in the Army, as men from England and Germany were especially obsessed by it.

At one time we had a few German soldiers in our outfit, or German heritage. They could "juggle" a volley ball by bouncing it on their knees, sort of kicking with the knees, going from one knee to the other, doing a high step.

Haven't thought of him in years, but there was one sergeant, named Grasse, who was the epitome of the Teutonic warrior: tall, slender, closely cropped blond hair, pale blue eyes, complete with a saber scar on his cheek.

I didn't know much about soccer before my kids started playing it. I have learned a lot but still don't know it all. It is a very physical & demanding game.

Not soccer but I've always thought it would be interesting to see some NFL player try to play Rugby. I think they would probably be really rough for about the first 10 minutes then they wouldn't be able to hang. Soccer & Rugby are continuous action games.

I understand about not watching it but we didn’t have soccer when I was growing up so America football was my sport. Unfortunately I played with more “vigor” than I should have and have paid a price on my body ever since. When my kids hit school soccer was the sport I encouraged versus football and both boys and my daughter all played. There were still broken bones, smashed noses and cracked heads but for the most part they came out in better shape than their dad did as far as long term health goes.

Are you insinuating that I think I feel superior because I have no desire to watch or follow sports on TV? I just don't care about professional sports, never have. Professional sports has absolutely no affect on my life. Is that not ok with you?

If one doesn't care for the topic of conversation why would one join in that conversation, especially when he/she adds nothing positive? It's not controversial or political or morally right or wrong, it's a sport. You don't like soccer? Fine. Go watch Gunsmoke. You won't hear me ripping on TV westerns.
