EBay Rip Off Gripe

Have to vent this morning since I am one Pissed Off guy today! I just sold a piece of reloading equipment yesterday for 280.00 and just fount out EBay charged me 28.00 (10%) for the transaction and that's after the PayPal service charge for payment. What a bunch of liberal Kalifornian money grabbers. EBay and PayPal sucks! :x

I sold a reloader once, the guy received it - took parts off it (that I am assuming he needed), smashed it and then returned it to me. He contested the order and since he had (unsolicited and uncommunicated) returned it to me - Ebay gave him all his money back. i was out. Post office would not honor the warranty for shipping because the packaging was not messed up. I was out. Have been an Ebay hater ever since.

i had similar things happen, mostly ppl from Florida and California...sold a Camera to a guy in Florida, he complained that it was broken, I ask him to send it back and I would refund his money, he refused and tried to get half his money back and keep the item...last deal I made on ebay

There are a lot of legitimate gripes about ebay, but this isn't one of them.

when you list the item right opposite the price blocks you can click and see the fee structure.

I'm no fan of ebay or their rates but you used it and didn't check it out. Not their fault... yours

There are a lot of legitimate gripes about ebay, but this isn't one of them.

They do clearly post all their fee's which you should read and calculate in advance of listing a item to see just how mush it is going to cost you to sell it on Ebay, a little late to gripe about the fee's after the fact, I prefer to sell gun related items local on Armslist, it's free to list and no seller fee's.

I bought something once on Ebay, an empty box showed up at my door. What a kerfuffle to get straightened out. The seller denied it, how could the box show up empty after all? It was a stop sign for my garage décor. The post office just laughed, that the sign "fell out." I think I had to rely on my credit card to get my money back, Ebay and Paypal weren't helpful.

That was several years ago and the last time for me.

So are we suppose to feel sympatric because you served for 4 years? that's like colored folk tossing in the race card calling them predigest, it has nothing to do with the fee's 10% of 280 = 28 not rocket science to figure out in advance.

You could have always sold it at a real live auction they usually charge 40% sounds like you got off cheap and should be considering this a cheap lesson in how auctions work, get over it and move on.

If able I give consideration to Armslist or Craigslist. Of course you may have to sift through the scammers.

I then factor the cost savings into the price.

All their fees are public knowledge and all part of the agreement you enter into when selling on eBay. It's all very clearly detailed on their site. While it may not be favorable, simply not knowing isn't reason to gripe in any manner to make it their fault. The only person to really point the finger at is, well...yourself. :?

Don't see how any previous employment serves ANY bearing to this whatsoever. :roll: Some, I guess, think it does and are quick to point it out to somehow make the point more valid. When does one take responsibility for their own actions? If you break a law even not knowing you did so, you still broke the law and would be guilty of that. Ignorance of that law is not an excuse. Didn't see the speed limit sign and got a speeding ticket...guess what...you're still guilty of speeding. Didn't bother with educating yourself of the fees, well...

I used to sell on EBay quite a bit. By quite a bit I mean I've got about 45 transactions. Used to be it cost around 3 or 4%.
I had a scope to sell a few months ago and figured it would bring around $300.
I went to EBay and looked at the fee schedule and it was going to be around $35. Uh, no.
So I went to Gunbroker. It sold for a little over $300 and the fee was $11.
No way would I ever use EBay again.

Im happy to pay them the fee. I don't know how many times I've sold something for twice what I could have gotten for it locally. I buy a lot too. Been dissapointed 3 times. Sucessfully resolved all 3 times. Two sellers just refunded my money and said don't bother sending it back. (Clothing) One seller sold me an as new never used shaving kit but gave back 1/2 the money when I complained about a heavy smoke odor. I'm satisfied.

Buy on ebay a lot. Stopped selling years ago do to paypal only,no more checks or money orders. Fees are high, so you need to add to your selling price.Simple, the fees are there,know what you are doing before selling. I was selling on ebay at the start.It was good till they went to 100% buyer protection, to you are on your own selling. No negative feedback allowed to be given to bad buyers only sellers. You have a money back guarantee if you buy something. Ebay has been bad for sellers for years, you have no reason to be upset,sorry you lose.

I've been buying antique guns for decades....from guys I've never met, over the phone. Never been skunked...
Talk with them a while, ask about the gun only after you've made a phone friend,,,ask him what he's going to do with
the money..If he Immediately answers he's looking at another gun...he's one of us..
Made some good friends...done business a couple of times with one..

You've got to trust people and yourself...but only if you're talking directly with the guy...
