WWB, I do hope you can take the time to go. It is quite an event.
My Grandson is there working at the Cub Crafter's display and giving demo rides at a grass strip close by.
Son Trey is going Monday by commercial rather than taking the Staggerwing. Even though he has over 8000Hrs, 500 carrier traps and many hundreds of landings in the SNJ-4/T-6. He doesn't feel confident to be able to handle ALL of the situation that could take place even though he has 25+- landings and 20 hours in "Ruby The Staggerwing".
Since my beloved wife has been diagnosed with dementia, I did not want to leave her alone for a week. Soooooooooooo I guess I will just have to spend my time on the RF

A Dream Come True! Welcome "Ruby" to the family, an iconic 1944 Beechcraft Staggerwing D17S. I figured a Ruby precious gemstone was appropriate for our 32nd wedding anniversary, and Brandie approved! Thanks to all that made this a reality, we're privileged to be the new caretakers!

Mr. Jim, that staggerwing is just plain a cool looking airplane. Whomever from the photo place took that 2nd picture, that is a outstanding picture. I'd blow it up and frame it.

Being the inquisitive person that I am I did some 'looking' at the stagger-wing. Seems the D-17S was the most produced.model; 67 civilian and 412 for the military. A total of 785 (all models) were built.

Two guys in a Beechcraft Bonanza. I have quite a few hours in my Bonanza and just don't understand this. No reason to get that slow on final approach. I keep my airspeed at 80MPH on final. The Bo will talk to you and lets you know things are not right. The controllers at Oshkosh try and keep everyone at 90KTS on the arrival approaches.
Super unfortunate! The guy got slow. 56 kn. You would think with as many years as he had apparently been flying that airplane, he would know that the one thing you absolutely must do in that Aircraft is keep the speed up. Definitely not trying to throw shade here, just saying, incredibly sad that something simple as lack of airspeed killed him and his friends

You are correct Son's went to the Navy in 1944. Most all of the civilian D-17S were impressed/confiscated for the military.
This provision was enacted by the 64th Congress in 1916 (Aug. 29, 1916, ch. 418), and remains in force today, so it would have formed the legal basis for any aircraft requisitions during the Second World War.
