Does the sidearm worn in a duty belt require more capacity than the sidearm you carry concealed?

I don't own a duty belt so I couldnt tell ya.

Concealed always.

And yes, I like capacity
Should I make that include sidearms open carried as back up to a hunting rifle then? Yet sidearms carried as primary hunting firearms may be more relevant?

Got a lot of revolver folks onboard, so how many speed loaders full of extra rounds do y'all carry for any or all of the above?

I carry a sidearm when I grouse hunt.

An O/U 28ga is great for woodcock and grouse, not so much for black bears and meth heads.

Typically a 1911 in 10mm (9 shots) but I have carried my .45 M&P (11 shots) and my Sig P226 .357sig (13 shots)

Got to admit that caliber (Horsepower) is more of a concern when I have a long gun as a primary in the woodlot. Don't even carry a single speedloader then. Maybe a dump pouch. But that's more of a tooth & claw situation than bracing a projectile weapon situation. YMMV.

Clearly, there isn't one opinion about carry capacity, and most people with strong opinions surprisingly carry guns that precisely match those opinions. In other words, if you think a S&W J frame is your preferred carry, 5 shots seem to be about the right number of rounds. If you like Glocks, then suddenly that number is different.

Yet how many speed loaders do the folks with a J-Frame stuff into another pocket? Perhaps that is the real number of rounds that folks consider relevant for concealed carry.
Not to mention how many mags/speed loaders rest on their duty belt?

If I carried a Glock in a level 3 holster on my duty belt, I had at least two mags, when it was a S&W L-Frame I still had 2 speedloaders.

I really don't know why anyone would carry something as large as an L frame and then also carry a bunch of reloads instead of just carrying an 18 round pistol. But that gets back to preferences.

Not necessarily, some folks are dictated what service sidearm they carry.

Once upon a time I was issued a S&W M&P .38 Special with five rounds in the 6 chambers and five more rounds inserted into a leather carry strap. Which sounds a bit under gunned, but it was a step up from just an MK2. 👍

Barney had 1 round that he kept in his shirt pocket.
Perhaps you need to carry a loud whistle and a big sign that says
FORMER SPOOK
DO NOT SHOOT

My duty sidearm was the S&W M&P in 45 ACP with a S&W model 640-1 as backup. Primary off duty was a Glock model 32 with extended magazines. The theory was in an off duty capacity more rounds might be needed until the cavalry arrived.

Usually I'll just use a tone of command and say "FREEZE" if I'm in a position of complete control. If I'm not in a position of complete control I just let the expended round do the talking.

What's your proven method? 🤔

Duck, Duck. GOOSE!! The goosed one usually jumps up making a target of opportunity while I run the other way...

It's rust... My joints creak like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz and I tripped on the Yellow Brick Road...
I'm not sure I could do what was required to get into the programs that I got into in Uncle Sam's Service, when I got into them. More or less excell. Today I'm pretty sure that I would be the Boat Anchor on any program, and there is nothing worse than being "That Guy" on any team.

But you can't be a has been if you never where. 😂

None of us can. And, we've all been something. Not big bad special operator types. Just ordinary folks. Some have had an interesting experience or two (most folks have). We apparently did okay cuz we are still here.

I have no idea at this point whether the OP is legit or some deranged LARPer, but he should stay away from the bottle and get some counseling either way.
I think he is a member of the secret squirrel society. There are plenty of real people here and a few that are like a pebble stuck in a hubcap. They make a noise that is annoying and are hard to pinpoint

Some on this forum must own pants with huge pockets, and/or carry a big load on their belt. When I leave my house I have my wallet, phone, keys and pack of tissues in my pockets along with one loaded gun in a pocket holster or on my belt. Whether that one gun has 7 rounds or 11 rounds I am assuming that I have enough capacity to stop the threat or get away from the threat. I don't leave home expecting to WW3.

the reason is balance... the gun in holster goes on one side and the two or three magazines go on the other... Even it it is an 18 or 20 round pistol I would still have a mag or two on the opposite side.

some of that is tongue in cheek and some of it is true... if I was carrying officially as in this duty holster then I would carry a full size pistol and extra magazines.. just like other LEOs do... now I do have to say as of late when I see a police officer loaded down with all this stuff I feel sorry for them and am really glad I don't have their job.... then I am old and worn out...

I like someone above I carry a lot when I go out... kind of amazing when you think about it.
Wallet full of credit cards..little cash, Swiss Army knife, car keys... cell phone, bandana, nitroglycerin, sig p239, extra magazine, watch, small note pad, pen....

Good heavens, I completely forgot about that trick. Sadly with most wheel trims being plastic these days it just doesn't have the same flair.
