Finished this drop point. Need to make a sheath still. Cocobolo and ebony. Focus is a little off, sorry.

Nice cocobolo wood handle. I was watching the "Better call Saul" TV show about a shady lawyer. He was contemplating renting a bigger office and told his partner I would put a big cocobolo desk right here. She said "what's a cocobolo desk?" He said I'm not sure but I want one! Judging from what the knife handles and pistol grips go for I couldn't imagine what a whole desk would cost! Beautiful knife!

Cocobolo starts at about $30/bf (a board foot is 12"x12"x1") and goes up from there depending on the figuring and quality/width, etc. It's a fairly small tree 20-30" dia. trunk, so it's very rare to find boards that are over 8" or so wide. A standard size desk would likely run well over $10,000 even for relatively common figuring.

Here's a pic of some really mind-boggling figured cocobolo.

These are small bookmatched sets of highly figured Mexican cocobolo
that prorated out to just a hair over $1,000.00 per board foot !!!

I buy the blades from Woodcraft http://www.woodcraft.com/search2/search.aspx?query=knife%20kit . This one is a spear point (which I tend to call drop point - very similar shape). These work well as a boot knife if you use thin scales and make a wood sheath with a steel clip on it. I've made a couple of these as shown below.

Woodcraft usually has a sale on their kits about once a year, so I stocked up on a variety of blades last year to save on shipping, etc. The metal clips aren't available locally here, so I have to order them - usually from http://www.theclip.com . I also embed a small (3/8 dia) rare earth magnet inside the wood sheath to retain the blade. You can get the magnets practically anywhere - Amazon for example, or often at local hardware stores.
