Fighting Knife

Though technically a "survival knife", it suffices rather well.

It is a bit lacking in blade length for certain maneuvers during H-H Combat, yet it has a good track record afield when wielded by trained professionals. Still, in a novices hands it's primarily a Survival Tool. Without 6 inches of penetration a Fighting Knife it shall never be. ☠️

First of all, any knife that is used in a fight is a fighting knife. There is no clear definition of a "fighting" knife as the word is ambiguous.
Second of all, many different knives, in shape or form are called a Bowie knife, but since he died at the Alamo, his knife was probably lost, stolen or confiscated and disappeared in history. So calling a knife a, Bowie knife is just an advertisement ploy.

Like I said, it works.
The MKII (KaBar) works a bit better. Upgrades have been made to both the PSK and MKII. The Pentagon Elite makes for a folding EDC along the lines of a Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife.

Quillions (handguards) are pretty much a prerequisite for a knife that will be asked to stab without wounding the operator. JMHO YMMV. Lanyards assist with slashes and limit the loss of the weapon during conflicts.

I did buy a very high end K-bar (SOG calls is a Bowie) this past Fall and decided it was my Christmas present to myself....
But as for fighting with it, I don't think so. Somebody comes at me with a knife I'm shooting the SOB.
Edit... just thought about that.... or if they are a "DOB". (SOB is sexist.... COB?). Son of, Daughter of, Child of...? OOB.... Offspring of?
Sorry, I got off topic... need more coffee....

I have a couple of "fighting knives". But they don't seem to meet some folks idea of a fighting knife.

What skillset do you need to match these knives with H-H skills and make them accomplished "Fighting Knives"? Mike Echanis did a few books on hand to hand and knife fighting, I was trained in the Flower Man arts.. Michael Echanis - Wikipedia https://share.google/RmFdxb8U101BhtKna

The things he could do, with just a stick, too.

Kali is what I studied. While I'm no master, I have seen what one can do with a short hunk of wood. Go after one of those guys with a knife and you'd be disarmed and disabled on the ground almost before you can blink. It's kind of a visual thing, but imagine what can be done a Kris or my actual favorite blade style a bolo. The US Army found out what the Moros could do with them.
