Dragonfly shooter help

Need help. I have a new 10/22 that I want to shoot ratshot with. It will not cycle. I bought a light charging handle spring and cut links out of it to lower the strength of the spring. I could not get the spring to allow it to cycle the rounds. I cut the spring until it was too weak to close the bolt and it would not fire. Does anyone have a 10/22 that will cycle ratshot? If you do please tell me how you got it to work.

I use smooth-bore 22's to shoot dragonflies as practice for wing shooting. I have had the 10/22 barrel smoothed but I cannot get it to cycle help!

It sounds to me like you've tried everything possible and it's just not going to work. I had the same experience trying to get a semiauto .22 pistol to run with CB Caps. It just ain't happening.

I sent the barrel to Urban Rifles and they took out the rifling, so that the ratshot does not deform when it goes down the barrel like a shotgun it patterns well but I sooo wanted to put in a 20 mag and shoot the nasty dragonflies with an automatic.

And I know I should probably give it up but it is hard to admit defeat ;

Thanx for the logical advice to let it go but maybe someone has done it but if not then it is probably impossible.

Get a Remington .22 pump (572, I think?) and pretend it's an 870. It's actually stocked a bit like an 870/1100 so it will feel somewhat like a shotgun. :wink:

I wonder, would the 22 short bolt/spring conversion help?

So, they drilled out the rifling? That would make the bore several thousandths of an inch bigger, and probably cause the pressure to go down... ratshot has issues cycling to begin with and the pressure loss probably made it worse.

What is rat shot? I haven't heard that term before. Is it the shot shells for rimfire?

.22 smoothbores are available, but at ridiculous prices. Remington made its Models 121 and 572 in smoothbore versions. Check gunbroker for them---they usually start at $500. The single shot smoothbores go for $300.

Boring out the rifling does not give you the optimal size for good patterns. And I've never heard of a semi-auto, rifle or pistol, that would cycle with shotshells.

I believe Bennelli has produced a 9mm rimfire semi-auto shotgun. A neurosurgeon I worked with used one to shoot dragonflies, and Ritz crackers, thrown by a miniature trap thrower.

You do know that each dragonfly eats hundreds of mosquitoes every night.
