Does "bark" bite?

I have two Ruger SAs that I will want to put elk stag or horn on, and I have a question for those of you who have done this.

The first one is a "Liberty" Single Six, and I know that it doesn't recoil enough to hurt your hands, no matter what grips it has.

But the other is a Bisley Vaquero .44 Magnum with 4 5/8" barrel, and with full loads it DOES "back up" a little. My question is: how much "bark" should there be on the grips and where? I LIKE "bark," and would usually ask for grips that have a lot of it (and will on the SS), but wonder if that's gonna bite my hands on the Bisley?

Any experience or suggestions? I shoot revolvers two-handed, if that makes any difference.

yes, thats why over the years you will see some of the stags that look almost "smooth" as they have been sanded down..........

On hard recoiling guns I prefer less bark. Plus I think it just looks better.

Look great for appearances but in a heavier load I prefer less bark

The three on the left are "bone" elk stag grips. They are polished smooth, and still offer the stag look without the texture. Love 'em.

P.S. the farthest gun to the left is a .44 mag. When shooting full power loads, I would NOT want stag grips with any bark. That could get a little painful.

Those "white" elk stag grips would go good with my stainless Bisley, 308!
