Not available here. What we need (at work) is cardboard recycling. Our dumpster gets full too often because of cardboard.
can't quite match that.... but yes, our city does even though they stopped taking glass and we actually pay a company to come and collect our glass every two weeks... they grind it up and sell it to the state for sand.

Several years ago they had recycling here.
The waist management company had two trash barrels . One for trash and one for recycling.
You were charged extra if you wanted a recycling barrel.
Then some reporter did a story about it.
Turns out they were taking the recycling straight to the dump.
Nothing was recycled.
Supposedly they actually recycle stuff now.
I figure if they want to recycle my garbage now , then they can go through it and recycle it themselves.

About 30 years ago I was willing to pay the extra fee to recycle. Needed different color containers for different groups. Ok, I get that. But then they said I had to purchase THEIR containers at a greatly inflated price. I couldn't just buy pails or tubs of the appropriate colors, it had to theirs.

Residential recycles are picked-up by the garbage guys once a week here; no big deal to comply.
Although when it started many years ago, there was on guy (there is ALWAYS that ONE guy) who refused to put his recycles in the free bin that the town supplied. He took ALL his garbage to where he worked and dumped it in their commercial garbage bin. Haven't seen him in many years; he eventually got fired (not for that stuff), wife left him, kids left him; last I heard, he was living with a sister. :-(. Moral of the story: if your town recycles, DO IT.. :-)

Where I live each home was provided with, at no direct cost, two large wheeled containers. One is for trash and the other for recycle materials. No one inspects the bins to make sure that you are properly separating what you put in them. Simple enough to do. FWIW, my son-in-law is a chemical engineer who works in the paper products industry. He has said that many of the companies that he supports depend upon cardboard recycling for their basic material. But I admit that I have no idea what the local waste management company does with the truck full of recyclables, i.e. how they separate the good stuff from what ends up in the dump and for all I know all of it goes to the dump but the program makes folks feel good about themselves.

My birthday was last SUN 02NOV25.....my youngest Son got me a new can crusher with an American flag on it. Wife is always moaning about the empty beer cans taking up space in the recycle bin...when I opened it I asked him "is this more for Mom than it is me?" :LOL:

Recycling has been going on for years here, picked up every other week and for years we have used two cans inside the house and carried full bags of recycling items outside to the recycling can.
I finally looked at the cities website and read how we are suppose to recycle.
All cans and glass items are suppose to be rinsed out and dried before placing in the outside bin.

If there is a bag in our green recycling can they will leave it and move on down the road.

I thought that by now most everyone knew what a farce "recycling" is. As for myself, anything made from copper, brass, or stainless gets set aside, cleaned and sold for scrap. I also remove and sell the motors from worn out appliances. All else either gets picked up by the city on Monday's, or if it's hazardous or too big/bulky to fit in a trash can, I haul it to the County landfill myself.

My regular trash (once again no recycling here) wheeled bin is green. Some neighborhoods are yellow. City mandated the containers a few years ago. won' pick up trash in any other container. They did so to utilize a $2M pair of trash trucks that can be run with one person at half the time it takes for a traditional truck and crew. Doing so eliminated several jobs and made the bill higher. The old "new" trucks leak hydraulic fluid all over the street.
We recycle. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t if it’s available.

State started charging a "deposit" for every recyclable container. Stores were required to accept return of containers and refund the fee.
Stores balked, with good reason. They would be required to spend a fortune on keeping dirty recycling from food stuffs. Insects and rodents were another issue, as was space for storage of returned containers.
The stores found a loophole allowing them to "contract" to recycling facilities and quit accepting returns. State gets to keep just about every penny of the "deposit".
Recycling facilities were inconvenient, filthy and often not really accessible.
State requires trash haulers to provide separate recycling bins. This now requires three bins, trash, recycling and green waste. This now requires an additional two trucks to pick up the bins weekly (hmmm, so much for environmentally sensible ideas). Of course, someone has to pay for pickup and recycling costs of trash haulers.
So the current environmentally unsound situation is, you pay a deposit upon purchase, which the state keeps. Then you pay a fee to trash haulers to remove your recycling which they in turn get paid. A multimillion annual scam all in the name of the environment.
I have no qualms putting green waste into trash or recycling bins if my all too small green bin gets full.
Oh and the sanitation district doesn't want you to use garbage disposals because the result in F O G ( fats, oils & grease) that result in fouled sewer lines and waste facilities issues. But the trash haulers don't want "garbage" in any of the bins.

Trash removal is not provided by the town in which I pay taxes. I pay for private trash removal. Two “wheelie” bins. One for trash and one for recyclables. I put all my cardboard in the recyclables bin and everything else goes in the trash bin. If someone feels so motivated they can sort through my trash…no charge!
You know, I don’t know why there isn’t some sort of law that anything made with an image of the American flag cannot be made overseas.
I have been known to recycle Wild Turkey 101 into pee...does that count?
The city picks up my trash from a trash can I provide. They wont pick up loose trash unless it's in a bag or boxed. There used to be a recycling program but it was abandoned because the city lost the contractor they were paying to do the recycling. The program cost to much. Now the only recycling is the big box stores that have a bin for plastic bags.

Our small town has a couple of the large multi-door bins set up for public use of recyclables. There are doors on each side, clearly marked for glass, plastic, paper, tin, and cardboard.
When you open a door and look inside, it's obvious there are no dividing panels between the types of materials, it's just one big cavity for everything. It's obvious that the bins are emptied by tipping them up and dumping everything out thru the big door at the rear. Still trying to figure that one out. :unsure:

Well, we live in a place where there isn't a city or whatever mandating recycling. We have to either take our trash/garbage to the local landfill, or pay for a private service.
BUT,,,,,,, I do separate out the steel & aluminum into my own bins. Then I take them to a recycling yard & sell them my scrap. I also salvage brass, copper etc to sell. Yep,, I recycle.
