At times I find it difficult to remember some one's name. So I've begun some mental exercises hoping to sharpen my brain cells. Often, as I lie in bed, I will mentally recite the Books of the Bible, or name the fifty states of the United States. At times I will work work the area of a square or volume of a pyramid.

Anyvosy else do mental exercises?

Not specifically. But I read and do crossword puzzles. I also like solving math problems in my head.

Want to see something really funny, ask a young person to calculate the square root of the lowest prime number.

I swear the total confusion is precious.

I read a lot; fact or fiction doesn't matter. I work two Sudoku's daily. I do leather-work so I design layouts. I try to play my guitar at least 15-20 minutes daily. At my age keeping busy is a requirement. I refuse to become a couch potato.

Technically all of the above can be done on the couch.:devilish:
True, but I honestly rarely sit on the sofa. I am outside in the fresh air or in my recliner. Some are addicted to the sofa and TV; I am not one of them. Right now I am re-designing a holster for my new Browning 1911-380. I made one that I used on my trip to Contender's last week and didn't like the way it sat on my side so I am doing another.

I read two novels a week, do simple math problems every day, watch Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune with my wife every weekday.
Google lots of famous names (historical, film actors, etc.) to read their bios.
Look at Google maps & street view to tour the world, exploring new places and old ones.
Tons of interesting things out there.

When not doing my favorite things, Chess and reading, I have other favorite things, usually at a gun range, or my Church. I attend my Church very often all year round. My church is deep in the woods and Forrest. My Church is the Forrest. Quiet, Peaceful, a great place to see God and hear a soft wind.

I like to do crossword puzzles and play solitaire on my cellphone. I also try to stay active, exercise benefits the brain also. The biggest thing I have to work at is making myself get off the computer. I can sit in my recliner and read forums and stuff for hours if I let myself. I do get frustrated not being able to remember names at times but being 79 years old I have met a lot of people and I think that is normal for older people.

Constantly. Just trying to figure out why I ended up where I am or what it was I went there for. Then there's the mental gymnastics of trying to understand what this darned phart phone is wanting.

I have worked on picture puzzles at the Senior Citizens Center...don't know if it helps/hurts my eyes???

I sometimes have trouble remembering a name and have used the following "tool" to help me recall it. I recite the alphabet to myself, thinking of names that start with "A", then with "B", and so one, and often that will trigger the correct name when I reach the first letter of that name. Sometimes I surprise myself with how effective this method actual is.

FWIW, some degree of forgetfullness is a normal part of aging. For me it is not unusual to try to remember something like the name of a movie that I am thinking of, and coming up blank, and then minutes, hours or sometimes days later it suddenly pops into my mind. I know that the forgetfullness of dementia, like Alzheimer's Disease involves forgetting information which is then lost forever. If the information is still there, and comes back to you later, it is not dementia but normal forgetfullness.

I like to play "7 Little Words" on my iPad. If you've never played it, it gives
you 7 clues to 7 words and you fill in the blanks. Makes you think.
I also read, alot. My 65" TV is wasted as it's very seldom ever used. The
TV in my mind is much better.

Many years ago I took a Dale Carneggie course with some 50 others. The instructor said by the time the lengthy course was done everyone in the room would remember everyone in the class by first name.

I said "wanna bet?"

He said he would bet me but asked why even before the class material was started I could defy the goals of the course. I told him (paraphrased) "Everyone has in their brain a little part that cares about such things, my brain says "I don't give a S@#T about names" and the class roared, I won the bet of $10.

I do several crosswords daily. Also do Wordle and Connections puzzles. My mother got me hooked on word puzzles many years ago. I must have done thousands of crosswords.

I do Sudoku and Crossword puzzles daily. I google random stuff just because I heard something in passing that piqued my interest and I like to learn.

Lots of people say crossword puzzles. About a year ago I found a reverse crossword puzzle book.

It gives you the answers (words) and you have to figure out how the fit together into the puzzle. They give one or two words as clues to get started.

The basic puzzles are somewhat easy, but they do get difficult. I try to do one a day.

I've done those before, they can be a royal PITA :ROFLMAO:
