This one reminded me. My wife and I stream a movie every night, and after awhile you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel, you get some real dogs and occasionally a real gem. We watched one this week that made me laugh harder than I have for a long time. It was "Nobody's baby". You have to pay attention but there are a couple of scenes that are hilarious! If you bother to watch it you will understand why this post made me think of it. :ROFLMAO:

My wife's mother died in Jan 5 2021 the estate has been settled since early 2023, my wife filed for the 2021 tax refund. Over the ensuing years, like you, she filed and refiled the paperwork (with no guidance) several different ways, checking the appropriate blocks twice the most logical and honest way, still requests for additional information which was the same information she had already supplied. The last time she changed tactics; she checked the blocks in the most illogical manner supplied the same information and then she got a phone call from IRS. "We want to ensure that you get your mother's tax refund in the most expeditious manner". Paula explained she had filed for the refund when she submitted the 2021 1040A in January 2022 supplying the death certificate etc. etc.. Well in November 2024 she finally got the check from the IRS.Waited almost two an a half years to try and get my mothers estate federal refund. State came within two weeks. Got a letter from the IRS about identity theft even though I sent in probate, death cert. and all tax forms, tried calling the number for over a year and after getting through the push this number for this and push this number for that the message would say too busy to take call and hang up! Even my two worthless state senators were a joke, no help from them or staff! Even the overpriced probate attorney was no help either. No respect for these worthless ABC agency's.
Never got her $1860 refund and finally closed the probate.
I think what caused the problem was after my dad passed my mother didn't file taxes for several years. But always held out more than needed, and they always got refunds. I think because she hadn't filed in many years is where the problem arose about the identity theft. Even after sending all the forms in again with letters explaining the probate and my assignment over the estate still never heard back. No way to ID Verify as all of her ID's had expired. My wife's mother died in Jan 5 2021 the estate has been settled since early 2023, my wife filed for the 2021 tax refund. My wife and I watched it last night. VERY funny. We are glad you mentioned it. Gary Oldman is a genius. But I will never buy Chapstick again :p;)This one reminded me. Same here...our local PO investigated and found the problem...but it involved a protected class of folks, so they did a workaround...all local mail is held locally and delivered the next day...not forwarded to the "problem" officethe five days was how long it took to get there... and that sounds fast to me... Here in my town if someone mails me a check from one post office here in town to mine or even if they drop it off at my post off at the counter it still takes that long to get it.
Turbo Tax user for years, I really hate the process but it must be done. This thread reminds me that I will have to do my taxes in the next two weeks. I use Turbo Tax and usually it only takes me a short while, but I always have major anxiety over the process. I always owe money so there is no reason for me to file early. Sitting at the computer and entering the data once yearly is one of my most hated chores.
The part that really bites your ass is you have to count your income tax return as income for the current year.Your payment goes to a different address and will be processed ASAP. A few years I had a refund coming and the following year I owed money. My payment check was cashed before I got my refund from the year before.
