Direct TV Gripe

Have been watching the hearings on Fox News 360. What my gripe is, is this, I can not set the DVR to record for a certain amount of time like 8 hours or so. It seems the only way to do it is to select to record every show that is listed for that amount of time.

It seems that the only way to record anything is to pick it from the channel guide. There's just no way to record for a certain amount of time.

Anyone know a different way to do it? Just no manual recording option on Direct TV.

My player/recorder is an LG that records both VHS tape and DVDs, and I can set the start and stop times.

I don't know of any other way?

I've had recorders that did all that also. But with direct TV you have to use the DVR that works on their signal. I don't know why they didn't put a manual record option on it where you can set the time on and the time off.

I just asked the question in a search engine and found the answer. It's not even in the Direct TV manual. If I hadn't found it on the net I would never have known it was available.

Well, maybe I'm a mite dense, but how do you know which recorders will work on their signal? My recorders have always had an antenna connection, antenna or cable input, then an outlet to the TV input connection.

There is no antenna connection on the Direct TV DVR. It connects to the direct tv satellite dish. If you could connect a regular DVR to it, it would not decode Direct TV's signal. That's why you have to pay for it.

The digital recorder the OP is talking about is in the Directv receiver.... the nice thing about it is it will record something while you watch or even record something else.... I have to say I really did not see the original posted problem as that bad since he could just tell the unit to record each of the listed individual showings separately.... I have to say that I'm not really familiar with here hearings... and refuse to watch or follow any of it.... I was forced to catch 30 minutes of it at a home I was working in last week and got absolutely noting out of it other than one of the congressman doing the questioning had drank way to much coffee that morning... or popped way too many pills....

I'm watching it mainly for entertainment value to see just how stupid the democrats can get. I'm waiting for the day when they regret they started the whole thing and wish they hadn't done it.

Blume, Why I was originally upset with the Direct TV DVR is that they did not include a way to manually record as in all the DVR's that people hook up to TV antennas. But as I said, I found out I was wrong. They did include that option. It's just buried behind menus where most people would not even see it.

People go to a circus for entertainment value. I find it entertaining to see how the democrats can twist things for their side. Like what happened yesterday with Sondland, the democrats finally got to the point that all his damning testimony was stuff that he "presumed" and not actually hard evidence. It was all based on his opinion.

I set it to record for eight hours. The trouble is, if there are 7 programs scheduled to run in that eight hours on 360 Fox, it lists the recording with all 7 programs names.

So if I wanted to go to five hours and ten minutes on the recording, I would have to go to the program that was scheduled at the at five hours on the recording time and go maybe ten minutes into it.

In other words if you press the pause button, it doesn't show the 8 am as the original start time and 4 pm as the stop time. It just shows one program with it's start time and it's stop time which would probably be one hours time. If you "fast forward", it will go program by program. It doesn't consider my 8 hours to be 8 hours. It just considers it a chunk of programs.

Never miss an opportunity to bash Dish. We were with them from just about the start. About 10 years or so into it our VCR crapped out. I went out and bought a new VCR and when I got it home there was no coax cable hookup on it. Our old dish boxes in the house only had a coax cable hook up, nothing else. Called up Dish and asked for new boxes and was told that'd be $110 for each one (we needed two). I explained that we had been loyal customers for 10+ years right from the start almost and this was the same equipment they were giving away for free to new subscribers. I also pointed out that being a loyal customer for that long should count for something...nope, $110 each please. Told them they could stick both the old and new boxes in a dark place and canceled their service.

We have Att Uverse with a DVR from ATT, if I set it to record a show, from time to time, it will say unavailable and ask me to manually set the times to start and stop recording. But I don’t think I can do what you are wanting. But after having this system for 7 years, I’ve never wanted to either.
