DIFFERENCES: MARK I, II, III

The first generation, of which the Mark I was the target version, had no "hold open" feature after the last round was fired. The safety also funtioned to lock the bolt, in either the open or closed position.
The Mark II, in all its versions, separated the bolt lock and the safety, and added the "hold open" feature.
The Mark III moved the mag release to the same position as found on a 1911... an improvement. Unfortunately, it also added a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect.... bad things, according to this old fart.
All three generations were available with either a 4" or 6" light tapered barrel with a rear sight adjustable for windage only. Then, there were numerous bull barrel, heavy tapered target barrel, fluted heave barrel, slab-side barrel, and who-knows-what options. These variations included a rear sight adjustable for both windage and elevation. Later Mark II and all Mark III pistols were drilled & tapped for a scope base that takes Weaver-type rings.

All are good guns, just pick the features you like, avoid the ones you don't and enjoy the gun! They are GREAT!
I seem to remember that the MK I also only held 9 rounds in the magazine.wwb said:

Pretty soon the masses will catch on to the(TRICK)and you won't find any of
those Darned old bargan MK 1 or 11's anymore.

Well said, Bob. I have noticed the prices creeping up on the MKI's, and some of the MKII's are already getting to be pricey. Still, there are tons of bargains out there, and if one looks regularly, should find enough bargains to do some horse trading for the ones that hold price on the tab bit high side. My eyes are scanning around for one of the 6 7/8" MKI heavy taper target models. I've seen those from under 2 Hunskies all the way to 5 Hunnert!
I wonder if Ruger has ever thought of trying to get the .22WRF chambered in a Mark III? Maybe make it a double stacker and a couple of different barrel lengths..... Hmmmm...... Dear Santa......

As luck would have it, I found a very nice Standard at the local gun show over the weekend and bought it. There are a few rust spots under the grips on the stamped frame, and a lot of old lubricant in the action being protected by layers of dirt, grime, powder residue, and, I assume, some metal dust.
I cleaned it thoroughly and am pleased with the results. Serial #888xx

BTW, it has been a great range weapon. Fires pretty much everything I put through it. Very accurate. Never done anything to it besides clean. Great trigger action.
