Social Security paid Nita's SS for July, which means it is an overpayment. S.S. has advised they will deduct it in October, but sent me a form for waiver. Since there are still outstanding medical/hospital bills, I sent in a request for a waiver.

Now I'm wondering if this is right or not. She did not live any in July, but since she incurred medical bills, I sort of felt like it was proper to ask for it.

What do y'all think?

The only thing I know about social security is how to pay into it. Am I understanding correctly that a waiver allows you to keep the money? I'd say go for it. Especially if that money is for medical bills on her behalf. If they keep sending you money, I'd say to put it aside in case they come asking for it back.

Check with your lawyer. When my mother died, I paid all of her doctor/hospital bills
that arrived in the first two months (I figured they earned at least most of it). Anything
that came in after two months, I ignored. Turned out that, at least in CO, all medical
bills are erased upon death. That's why I say to check with your lawyer.

P.S. One doctor kept after me for six months, when his first bill was after three months;
he received nothing.
