desperate for help, MK III lever wont come out (SOLVED)

i have a brand new MK III Target Model

I was trying to disassemble the gun following the instructions in the manual and i got to the point to remove the bolt and it would not come out so i reinserted the bolt stop pin so that i could try later after watching some videos online.... After watching a few videos i tried to disassemble the gun again but the lever to remove the bolt stop pin wont come out completely and stops about 1/2" out of the handle... On top of this when i went to cock the gun it would not dry fire to relieve any spring tension.

I am completely lost and can't find an answer.

The answer was within the comments of the video
1.) I had to re-insert the magazine
2.) Turn the gun upside down
3.) hold the trigger
4.) gently tap top of gun on my table
5.) remove magazine
VOILA...

I know i didn't get the answer here on the forum but i figured since i had the problem and posted about it, anyone stumbling upon this post would surely like to know how i resolved it...

welcome...I feel your pain as I was In a similair situation a few months back when I got my first Mark
I don't feel I have the insight to tell you to get a hammer and start hitting things (but that is what mine needed)
this reminds me I need to get a nylon punch

well it feels as tho the lever is being caught on something as i try to pull it out of the grip assembly

Sorry, I misread and though it was the pin only moving 1/2" when I suggested hammer.

Glad you found answer and SHARED you findings as I'm sure that will happen to me some time.

Have you removed the barrel from the frame? That was also a bear for mine. (Plus putting it back together)

Be careful of the magazine insertion.

yes, removed the barrel from the frame, had to give it a hell of a whack with a plastic mallet, followed instructions very carefully, i have now successfully tore down & reassembled my gun :)

And you needn't do it again for a few thousand rounds.....

glad i got this frustration out of the way, i haven't even put a single round through the gun. excited to see how it performs at the range tomorrow

What was likely happening internally was your hammer was not in the fully forward, uncocked position, and the hammer strut was hanging up inside the mainspring housing as you attempted to remove it from the frame.

In my opinion, the best instructions on the disassmble/reassemble of the Mark III is on Ruger.com. I took apart mine for the first time today and just followed along with the videos. :) Had zero problems.

LOL, Val! I've told this story before, but it bears repeating now and again: a former co-worker retired from pistol smithing for my old boss, but kept close to the business as a salesman in one of the local shops. People would come in all the time w/ problems getting their Mk IIs (pre-Mk III days) back together.

He'd smile, and give 'em this advice:

"Go home and read the instructions in the manual. Then do exactly what it tells you to do. When THAT doesn't work, read the instructions again, and this time, do EXACTLY it tells you to do!"

You really DO have to hold your mouth just right while standing on the correct foot like the book says... or it ain't gonna work! No stones coming from this direction... ;)

My friend, it's commendable that you were successful the first time. I wish you the same success every time from now on. I did that "procedure" the first time in 1976. It was less complicated then, I must admit. Since then, I have had more than one frustrating moment. It's nothing that a little redoing can't fix and a little whiskey can't turn into a smile later.
