I paid $600 for a Gen 2 last fall. So another $200 for a scout rail with integrated rear sight and barrel mounted front sight on a rifle that has never come with sights of any kind, is not too bad of a deal to me. Try building one. The Skinner rail starts at $150 and then you need to affix a front sight.

Now hear this. I got my Ruger Gunsite Scout, .308, on Jan 2016. The aperture on the rear site was too small and I could not see anything through it, so I got an XS Long Picatinny Rail which had a larger aperture then the OEM. Still put a scope on it, but not in front. Fun rifle

Note: This Gun Talk Scout Rifle is a limited run. Heavier barrel (no flutes) than standard American. Custom camo pattern and smoke bronze Cerakote metal finish. Rail and iron sights.

I like the balance with the slightly heavier barrel.

Scout rifles — The SUV of rifles. Not for everyone, but a fine general purpose rifle. Also available in 5.56.

I do not hate the scout rifle concept and have an m77 Scout in .450 BM set up that way.

If I was not in the middle of putting together an ELR gun I would be looking real hard at this in .308. For close in (<200 yd) hunting in thick stuff, the scout, with the forward scope is perfect as you get a clear field of view through both eyes and retain the ability for shots on target.

I hardly ever shoot without both eyes open anyway, the scout just makes that easier.

For ranges past 200, I would go with a typical scope setup, but the scout rifles definitely have their place.

I also have a M77 Hawkeye version of the Gunsite Scout Rifle. I use it with a conventionally mounted scope. I would like to also have the same thing without a scope, just so I could use the receiver sight. This American fit the bill. When I said earlier, they were hard to buy, it's because every time I tried to buy it, GunBroker showed it, but then said none could be found.

I suspect many folks would be interested in this rifle. I wish Ruger would market it thru other distributors, and make them actually available .
That's strange. Durys Guns is taking orders for them every day. The rifles arrived from Lipseys this week and the first ones will be shipped next week.

Try guntalkscout.com and find the package you want. It comes without a scope, with a scope and bore sighted, or with the scope mounted and sighted in at the range. The package that's sighted in at the range comes with a supply of the Black Hills Ammunition used to sight in your rifle.

It should be as easy as buying any gun on Gun Broker.

This is the fourth limited run of guns we have done, and all were sold exclusively through Durys Guns with no issues.

And I found it again, not by searching the model, but by searching the item number. But, Gunbroker continually says my credit card expiration date is incorrect. Uh, not it's not. I'm looking at it as I type! I even tried a different card. It rejected that date too.
Again, this purchase has been difficult to the point of it's not happening. Maybe an omen.
GB CC system has been garbage on and off for the past 6 months. I've just called sellers and given them my info over the phone without issue.

I think GB overextended themselves a while ago and are having trouble keeping up with maintenance.

“Just take my money”

That’s frustrating as can be. We’ve all been there, standing at the till with our item in hand, and crickets. I know I’ve walked away in the past.
