I think this is some kind of swallow. The pictures were taken last year about this time. They're back and at it again. 😄
Sorry, couldn't get the video to load. Photos only.

I'd crank the truck,, giving it a moment or two, turn it off, and repeat a few times. Then,, before they could get back in,, I'd add a piece of wire mesh,, (1/4" hardware cloth wire) over the exterior,, and clamp in in place with a pipe clamp.

Now that you mention birds, NYC must have something in the air that has booted the pigeons. All of a sudden my NJ town is inundated with them, I would add that badly installed solar panels provide a space for them to nest. They have a bad case of NY/NJ " don't give a damn" and will give you a dirty look if you walk in their midst. I call them sky rats.

What is it with birds this year? I am having trouble with sparrows sitting on the doors of my vehicles and fighting with the bird in the side mirrors. It wouldn't be to bad except they are crapping all down the side of the doors. Last week we had all the kids here for Sunday supper and they hit all eight cars and trucks. We have to tie plastic grocery bags over the mirrors and fold the mirrors against the door to get them to stop. I even tried taping a picture of a cat inside my truck right where they sit.

Stuff like that only works briefly. Once the animal sees that the picture or decoy or whatever isn't moving,, they ignore it. The same thing goes for plastic owls, rubber snakes etc.
Unless you move the "predator" around 2-3 times a day,, they quickly learn it's fake.

Last year I didn't see them until they had already built a nest in the tailpipe. I started the truck and blew out a pile of dead grass and small twigs, no eggs. I caught them early this year and no nest yet. I plugged the pipe with a piece of memory foam for now.

They learned pretty fast. I thought about a 12 ga. but I'm concerned about the damage to the paint. Now I just keep the garden hose handy and wash the bird crap off every day.

I hope next spring there will be a different bunch of birds. I've lived here for 35 years and never had this problem before.

No birds nesting in the tailpipe BUT the starlings are going nutso gobbling up the June bugs that accumulate in the rain gutters. Hadn't really noticed this until this year so not sure why the change??????
