As most here know, in recent years the Democrat Controlled Colorado Legislature passed a bill, signed by Democrat Governor Hickenlooper, effectively prohibiting the sale of gun magazines containing more than about 10 rounds. There have been other protests including certain businesses moving out of Colorado as a result.

For many years the Colorado Town of Westcliff, population about 400, in the Wet Mountain Valley, has held an Independence Day Parade on July 4th each year. This year the parade, sponsored by the Wild West Cowboys Church and the Sangre de Cristo Sentinel Newspaper developed into a protest against the Democrat violation of our Second Amendment.

Normally there are about 5 or 6 Hundred spectators lining the street for the parade. This year an estimated 5000 spectators cheered as the largest contingent in the parade included over 500 openly armed persons, all openly armed with long guns, short guns, even an armored vehicle with a 50 Cal gun, flying American Flags, paraded through town in the nearly mile long parade.

After the parade a case of 30-round magazines was opened and the magazines openly distributed, dumped from the stage, to those present for the patriotic speeches on stage, "as a stick in the eye to the Democrat Legislature and Governor". The Local LEO even manged to obtain one of the magazines.

I believe that one of our own lives near Westcliff. Perhaps Don was at the parade and can give us more information.

Here's a bit more detail:

The 4th was Molly's 60th birthday and I was keeping her hydrated with margaritas on our side of the Sangre De Cristo. Had I known that was happening, we would have gone. Funny, from our old house in Crestone, Westcliffe was right at 13.5 miles, but it takes almost 2 hours to drive over there. We have to either go to Salida, follow the Arkansas river down to Cotopaxi and then down to Westcliffe or we have to drive over La Veta Pass, if in the Jeep we can cut up Pass creek road to get to the highway to Westcliffe, but otherwise you have to drive all the way over to Walsenburg and then back up 60 miles to Westcliffe
The other day I was shooting my Colorado compliant AR magazines and the pop rivets that limit the PMags to 15rnds just fell out on the ground, so now my magazines complain that they are hungry if I don't fill them all the way up LOL

Our family grew up ranching in Colorado and farming and feeding in Nebraska......there are a few that remain and though it is nothing planned or organized it would benefit a person or group a great deal to stay the hell away from them and from their property....They are tightly knit within their communities and have a very, very long history of taking care of their own matters. They are law abiding ,peace loving , hard working people and leave others alone..If someone needs help they will usually be the first on schene to put a hand out.

These folks will if pushed, push back very hard and then entire community will push back..There has been a strong resistance to the Government and it's ususally not an issue as the Government folks don't seem to get along in the wilderness too well...they need a motel and a nice restaurant. Frankly Hi cap magazines, altered guns, etc might just be considered tools for a job that needs doing...Not much "target shooting" or playing Rambo there. When the shoot it is for food or for pest control so you can decide what they might aim at if pushed by the government.

Washington has no idea what is going on

Now wait a minute, that's going too far. .....ah nevermind, ...wrong kind of magazines. :D

Don, I am sorry that I missed it too. I did not know about it until after it was over. Our South Ranch is about 4 hours from Westcliff, North to the Arkansas Canyon, up the Arkansas River to Poncha Springs, then Over Monarch Pass, Down the Tomichi and Gunnison, and over Blue Mesa.

Actually my wife and I were at our North Ranch hosting a Bar-B-Q for our neighbors and employees as we have traditionally done on the 4th for a number of years. So I probably would not have been there. But it's nice to know about.

Maybe we can get there in the future.

I'd rather have been at your BBQ way out there. I'm getting to hate the San Antonio area.

I am always in awe at the distances you westerners have to go to get from one place to another. In our part of Louisiana, one can cross Louisiana by driving from Mississippi to Texas in a bit over two hours

OLD JOKE:
IN a Bar, A TEXAN is Bragging about HIS state:
"Why, You can drive for Three days and STILL be in Texas."
A "SOONER" cowboy is sitting on a stool next to him says:
"YEAH, We got roads like that IN Oklahoma too.

My wife's sister and her husband live in Texas. When they get a little too uppity I just remind them that since I was born in Oklahoma, I know that Texas is just the Panhandle County in Oklahoma.

Look on a map and see for yourself.

Hi,

Will, I dunno what my mother had against Texans and Oklahomans. We had family in both States (all real good folks, too) and while she missed being born in Dallas by about two weeks, she lived the first five years or so of her life there, before the grandparents moved to Kansas, following a job.

Anyway, when we were kids she used to tell us Texans were just Mexicans on their way to OK. That oughta upset just about everybody! 'Specially uppity ones... ;)
