I was there many years ago, 1973. I found a handful of Minie balls at Gettysburg. Here a couple pics.
I find it very interesting that back then there was experimentation with hollow points. On both sides, as is evidenced by the 2 ring Confederate hollow point and the two 3 ring Union hollow points. Both of the round balls are distorted from impact. And the bottom right is one of those cleaner rounds, from the amount of “expansion” it must have really been moving. Several of the others show distortion from impact- especially the hollow point on the top right. But that cleaner bullet was really moving. Double charge? Near point blank impact? We will never know.
