Choice for 41 Special

I think that FA is the cats meow. The cylinder length is the only draw back, but if you want to shoot long bullets, you can always trim your brass back to fit.

I haven't measured my cylinder for some time but recall the wall thickness to be a bit more than that of a Colt SAA 45.

That FA 41 mag sure is a beaut! I have always been partial to 45 Colt revolvers, but I remember when I first saw you post that perfect packin pistol in 41 mag. Yowza!

Must the .41 Special in a Single Six be done on an Old Model, or can it be done on a New Model?

Also, I know this is sacrilege, but could it be done on a .32 Vaquerito? I would imagine that would save quite a bit of customizing expense, since it's already a centerfire.

It has to be an old model single six. the loading gate window has to be opened up a bit so the 41's case can be loaded. the new models don't have the "meat" needed. I reckon you'd have the same problem on the vaquarito since it's a new model.

but the new models can be converted to .38 special

Yep, the transfer bar channel in the frame prevents opening up of the loading port enough to clear the .41.

I have to tell you guys, I finally got a break in the schedule and weather and got to take that little Horvath 41 Special out this afternoon. What a FUN little gun/cartridge combo! I think it will rapidly become my favorite little package. 210 grain Keith style bullet at about 950 fps out of a tidy little OM 357, what a pocket full of fun without getting beat up. I can't wait until the next one gets here next month.

I appreciate the enthusiasm for the custom Single Six but I don't think that's what the OP is looking for. Let us not forget that the .41 Single Six will cost at least two or three times what the Blackhawk conversion will and it won't handle the same loads.

Mine didn't, not even close. I suggest if one wants one they give Alan Harton a shout assuming, of course, that near magnum loads are not a requirement.

Don't have a clue about Harton's pricing (past or present) but you can get a Blackhawk converted for well under $1000, Clements' Jeff Quinn Special is still only $575. The Single Six is a five shot conversion and priced accordingly, most `smith's want at least as much as a .475 or .500 conversion if not more. The .41 Single Six is a niche within a niche and the Old Models are more work to convert to a five shot.
