Cheapest 9mm & 45acp Ammo?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but thruout my searching for the cheapest target shooting ammo in 9mm & 45acp, it was suggested to ask away any where cause u never know if someone is having a sale, or discount, or selling off there stash. So does anyone know any 9mm ammo cheaper then $205 for a 1000 count, & or about double that with 45acp ammo??

I'm sorry but even the better ammo factory suppliers are going to run you at that range in price. Anything that is factory and cheaper is going to be of dubious quality. There are some bulk reloader's out there that will save you a bit but I always found them spotty in quality and the good ones had a hard time holding prices because of component cost.

I got into reloading because of all this, I shoot a lot and I could actually make quality rounds for close to half the cost even in 9mm when I bought my components in large bulk. You will get that answer from almost all out there.

I never buy ammo or gear at the range. Hell not even at Walmart. Sites like cheaper then dirt or bulk ammo have deals right around the $200 mark for 1000 rounds. Just trying to see if theres any other cheaper deals, oh & I prob shoulda mentioned that theres no way im buying reloads!

I've only been seriously reloading for a bit over 4 years, and I've only bought one box of factory ammo since. I shoot much more of the "expensive" calibers than I would have ever dreamed possible, and spend less than half what I did 5 years ago shooting the "less expensive" calibers. And, I don't even cast my own boolits.

Depending on the reloads quality can be the same as new.
Fact is I have not bought NEW ammo in years, I buy components and make my own.
Quality is top notch as far as I'm concerned. Savings allows you to shoot more for less!
Sounds to me Reloading should be in your future. ps

you cannot have it both ways as we are NOT talking about potato chips or panyyhose here. DO all of you cheapshot guys ALL drive YUGO's ?? Why not...they are the cheapest ?!?

That seems to be best going price for major brand 9mm ball ammo. I've been buying .45 ACP at roughly $380/1000.

The prices you mention are about as low as it gets....and that's for reloads, steel or aluminum.
CCI Blazer Bass ammo aint a much higher, and you can sell the empties as "once fired" to a reloader.

Im not sure if ur calling me a cheapskate or not, but I will say that no one goes out & buys 500 rounds of top shelf ammo to shoot up paper targets at a 25yd inoor range!

Calling other shooters at the range "cheapshots" because they dont have ur level of "expertise" shows just how much u actually DON'T know! If u were a standup guy then u would take the time too give them advice rather then bashing them in an open forum.

This is simple human decency, either u reply to someones thread with intentions to help them out, or go get in your yugo & keep shooting ur solid gold ammo & making fun of others that don't...

Don't turn your nose up at commercially made reloads. They are probably what your local police shoot for practice and training. Commercial reloaders can produce quality equal to or better than some factory ammo.

Better yet, start rolling your own.

To address your original question, though. Several years ago, I was able to buy a couple thousand rounds of 45ACP for less than the components would have cost me (Remington UMC cartons). Never found a bargain that good since.

Last week I had occasion to look up prices for 45 ACP on the internet. The cheapest 230 Grain hardball I found was Tula for $140 for 500 rounds. Steel cased, it is problematic to reload, so there is no salvage value to the casings. Brass-cased ammo (reloadable) will be about $209 to $300, as I recall.

That's why you don't buy reloads from sources without reputation. Casual reloaders with not much experience in large production techniques (no matter how expert they are at reloading, reloading for quantity is another skill, unrelated to reloading knowledge).

Reloaders with proper business licensing and Federal ammo producer's licensing, insurance coverage and enough of a customer base to have established themselves... that is another story entirely.

Ask at your local gun store for the names of nearby commercial reloaders. Also nearby law enforcement offices (not just any officer, but find out from the armorer or their training department or police academy) where they get their training and practice ammo (or even their duty ammo).

Well. a reloading setup for .45ACP for $170 is doable (even buying new gear). If you also include enough ammo to make the break-even point, $500 is more like it.

(edited to add: I could replace my entire loading bench for $750 (7 calibers and a separate dedicated powder measure for each one). I lack for NOTHING, though, I admit to not having a progressive press, my turret suits my needs, personality and style. If frugally bought and a few luxuries trimmed out, I could have gotten by for under $500 and not be inconvenienced much at all.)

The necessities: press, dies, scale, manual, calipers miscellaneous small accessories, figure $300 to $350 for a setup you will be happy with. You likely will not want the "Yugo" of loading gear, but top-notch stuff you will keep for years or decades. I chose the best I could find. An auto-indexing press made of cast iron.

Then 2 lbs of powder ($60-$70), 1,500 primers ($10 to $15) 1,500 bullets ($100-$150)and brass ($0 because you have been saving yours, right?)

Total investment: $500-$600. Ammo $500-$600 worth, all in.

After than, however, your cost of ammo is a lot less than you will ever find at a store, quality will (can) be far superior, availability will be much improved. Your satisfaction will be priceless.

I would reload even if there were no savings. If you have to ask why, you probably would not understand.

The veggies I grow may be more expensive then store-bought
The fish I catch may be pricier than store-bought
The (admittedly non-existent) game I eat may be costlier than meat-market fodder.
The groups I punch on paper are worth nothing, but, to me, are priceless.

I do these things not because it enriches my wallet, but because it enriches my life.

Having said that, it does take certain personality traits to reload. Meticulous is one such trait. If reloading does not suit you, sell the gear (you won't take much of a beating on price-good gear holds its value).
