I recently purchased a brick of the new ammo and gave it a try today.

First of all it is quiet. It seems a bit louder than cci's cb long rifle w/29 grain bullets, but I would expect that due to the fact that the velocity is advertised as the same in both variations (even though the quiet-22 has a 40 grain bullet).

It functions perfectly in my henry lever gun and my old Mossberg .22 bolt gun. It will not cycle a ruger 10/22 or 22/45 (as suspected).

At 25 yards out of the rifles, the Mossberg wears a scope and I could manage 3/4" groups easily. The Henry wears no optics and thus I thought I would just bang my 4" gong (and therein lies the problem). At 25 yards the .22 quiet ammo ricochets off the steel. Not every time, but out of 5 shots it did it 3 times and I thought "that's enough of that" and spent the rest of my time shooting paper and cans.

I am guessing not enough energy to pancake the bullet and push the gong back so it ricochets downward. You might try one of those plastic spinners, but the rounds might not penetrate through, like they should. I use those with a .22 cal air rifle and after a while I have to dig pellets out so it hangs right.

That's kind of what I thought too. With these rounds I think I'll stick to punching paper and cans.

hi,,,perhaps you should modify the angle of the target to 7 or 10 degree,,,that way all bullets ricocheting off the target will hit the ground,,,just a thought :D :D :D

Mobuck, the issue is lack of ooomph to cycle the action. OP said it did not cycle his 22/45 nor his 10/22. Totally unsurprising.

The loads are too light to cycle the bolt on either the 22/45 or 10/22. I contacted KIDD products about their different guide rod and springs for the 10/22 and asked if he thought the lightest spring would cycle the bolt with these loads and the reply was "they are pretty light" (they meaning the loads). Would it work? I don't know.

I think I'll stick with standard velocity loads for the Rugers and shoot the quiet-22s in my Henry and Mossberg.

At the range I'm a member of the you have to hang the gong off a 2x4 rail. I'm using a chain (the whole thing looks like a cheap Mr. T necklace) and there's no way to adjust the angle.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Just a thought, you might add a third chain to the back of the target to set the angle. 8) 8)

I think the old CB Caps had a frangible type bullet. Same as what was used in the old shooting gallerys at the fair. I still have a few boxs of them along with some BB Caps that I got from a friend. Probably from the 50s-60s
I also have some GI Surp. 30-06 frangibles. Anybody know what they were used for? Box in the picture.
