I don't know which to disbelieve
the fact he did 50+ times
or
the fact he thought it was legal

He's an "entertainer" and they figure the laws do not apply to them.

BUT, to say he got on a plane 50+ times that way?

Maybe he was carrying his baby, you know............ a baby Derringer

I'll be here all weekend....

Remember, last year TSA sent agents to airports all over the country to see how easy it was to get on board with a gun. Before the test, they figured they'd have about a 3% success rate. In fact, 97% of the armed agents made it through "security".

Airport security is a pure farce.

Yep... Derringer is a straight up guy. I have absolutely no doubt that he's carried his pistol with him on other flights. There's quite a few rockers who carry.

And the history of that practice goes way way back. When the Buddy Holly plane crashed in 1959, there were firearms found scattered about. Each of the 3 deceased rockers had a revolver.

David Crosby was a pacifist until he nearly ended up at the Tate home in 1969 when Manson's tribe did their thing. Croz somehow lost his way there or something... But had he been there, he'd have been toast. He started carrying after that, and had MANY run ins with airport personnel over his weapon.

Life in the fish bowl ain't any bowl of cherries...

I don't get it.... I got caught with a gas cigarette lighter last time I flew.... how do you sneak a gun past the x-ray machine, walk through metal detector or that big microwave sure would like to know how, not that I would do it... really could not afford the lawyers.

I thought that all carry-ons went on the conveyor to be Xrayed. How the heck could he get away with it 50 times?!?

i have to call bs on doing it 50 times. Apparently customs must have caught him not Mexican security. He's lucky the federalies didn't get him as I hear they can really be tough on gringos.

A lot of celebs don't go through regular security. LAX even has a building on the south side just for celebs. They drive insde and get out of their limos and are taken to their flight via airport shuttle without ever entering the public area of the airport.

Good to know, that would explain it then I guess.

About 15 years ago on a flight to Vegas, the TSA guy (Austin airport) was squinting at my camcorder case on his X-Ray machine and asked me, "What kind of a laptop is that?".

If he'd gotten caught in Mexico... that would have been a real bad day for him....or probably a bad couple of years. Last I heard guns are outlawed in Mexico and no citizen can have one.. just the police, right?

Years ago I had to go to Los Angeles General hospital. I had a cheap tool to tamp my pipe tobacco with that looked like a spike. They wouldn't let me in with it. Another time I had a uncle that died and flew home for the funeral. Going home I put a knife he had given me with a war story about it when he returned from the war. I put it in a locked small metal box for carry on along with some other souvenir`s. They called me over to open the box. They got excited to see the knife in the box. Okay, I can understand that. But then they called a old man guard over to escort me and the knife to the luggage area. I handed him the knife but he wanted me to carry it through the crowd! So I walk through the crowd with the dagger in my hand with him following me! I kind of enjoyed that. My 35 year job was as a guard but I wasn't going to point out his mistakes.
Many years ago my ex wife left on a trip a week before me. The plan was to drive around the states on a huge trip. I had a chance to do a escort duty detail where I could get paid almost around the clock for a few weeks that would help pay for our big trip. She drove by herself and our young daughter from California to New Orleans to friends. Then at the end of my detail I flew and met her for the rest of the trip. She packed a snub for protection. We spent a few days in DC seeing everything. We toured the white house, this was about 1984 when you still could. We were in the long line and coming up on the metal detectors. I whispered to her you aint packing are you? Oh my God YES! I had her palm me her snub and ran it back to our vehicle. Had I knew what would happen a year later I would have grabbed my daughter and snuck out! She would be getting out of prison maybe just about now.

Mexican citizens can own hunting long guns not of military caliber and handguns up to .38 Special, if I'm not mistaken. There is only one legal gun store in the entire country - it's in Mexico City and is operated by the Mexican Army.

US citizens can take their personal firearms for licensed hunting, but supposedly there is a lot of strict paperwork & permits involved. If a tourist is caught with a non permitted gun or even a single unauthorized cartridge on his/her person or vehicle, their behind will be tossed in jail for a loooong time.
