Newby to the board. I have a new Blackhawk .357.......is it possible to buy a 9mm cylinder and use this like a convertible model? :?:

Yes, some will drop right in. Others require fitting. Ruger used to fit 9mm cylinders to 357's but from what I've heard they don't anymore. Maybe someone can confirm that.

Ruger will fit, if the gun left the factory as a convertible model (i.e. with a 9mm cylinder in this case)

Then you need to get a cylinder and a smith. I have seen conversion cylinders from time to time. You might post a WTB. Get good measurements on your .357 cylinder so you get one that can be fitted.

Cylinder dimensions as well as timing are the issues.

You might just consider buying a convertible and save time, money and hassle, then sell your gun. Here's a nice one in the box at a very fair price that I just happened to come across this morning:

I was thinking the same thing. Only I was thinking buy one then see if the cylinder will work on the one you have then send the convertable one to Ruger to have a new cylinder fitted then you could sell one or keep both. I wonder how much Ruger charges for a new 9mm cylinder. Ed

Ruger built me a 9MM cylinder Dec of 2009 for about $125. Had to send the firearm in so the cylinder could be timed. This was a 1977 Black Hawk 357. Sipping to Ruger was about $45 so you can decide is my (your)357 BH worth the coin for a 9MM cylinder or is it better to let it go and get a convertible.
