Just wondering if any of you have had any luck with that magic hose that expands and contracts? Saw another commercial today. They're still hawking that thing. They go on and on about the new improved black outer sleeve. It's supposed to be tougher than ever now.

Well, that outer black thing doesn't impress me. I've purchased two of those hoses and what sprung a leak on them was the thin rubber inner hose. One of them burst right at the brass where the rubber connected to it. The other burst a couple feet from the brass fitting. I will never buy another one but was just wondering how you guys have dealt with those things. Was it the inner rubber hose that burst on yours?

It always the inner. The outer shell is just to protect the stretchy inner. My wife LOVES them. I hate them. Restricted flow.

So you know that means I buy them. I watch for the end of season sales and buy next years hose then. I usually get about two to three years from them.

I add them to the last section of real hose. When I want flow/volume I remove the stretchy hose.

On that second one, I only used it to wash my cars. The third time I used it, it burst. I even put it away between car washings. Thankfully I have no wife who loves them.

If I could have had a video a year or so back of me trying to get a drink out of one of those hoses I probably would be a little better off. The hose was coiled up beside the outside facet and I took the hose in one hand about a foot or so back from the end and turned the facet on with the other... the dern hose started to swell up and then when water started to come out the part hanging off my hand started to whip around in a circle and proceeded to spray me and everything within 5 or 8 feet.... I was blinded by the water spraying in my face and let go of the facet and then had to feel around to find the dern thing and finally get the water off and the maniac hose to settle down.

I have one and truly don't like it. Very restricted flow compared to my big rubber hose. It is OK for watering plants but I wouldn't use it while washing my car.

I love them.

There are different versions, with different fittings. The ones with all-metal fittings are better, but I still only get two years out of them until I have an internal blowout.

I bought one,, it worked fine , until I snagged it on an antique, metal lawn chair. Harbor Freight has good, 3/4” x 50’ garden hose. I paid $15? $16? On sale. These are good quality.

I want to thank you for the jinx. Had one blow out tonight.

Been looking all summer for a sale, so far no luck. I might have to pay retail.

BTW - All of mine have been cheap green hose and plastic fittings.

Goodyear makes a thick heavy duty hose that last for years. I had an orange one I used in my work for years until it developed a hernia ... not leak just a bubble, so, I bought a replacement just like it both are still going strong and I'm pretty sure the most amazing part is they are made in America.

I just saw Richard Karne hawking a new hose. It's the Black Bullet. He is raving about the new outer hose. It's reinforced with hemp fibers so it's the strongest outer hose yet. And the connectors are plastic infused with charcoal so it's safe to drink out of.

So who cares about that outer hose as it's always the rubber inner hose that bursts. Evidently they just don't get it. No matter how much they say they've improved that outer hose, I won't ever buy another one. I wonder how many people actually got screwed buying those hoses?

Time to revisit this. Found some low cost ones on the online market. One leaked upon installation. Sent them back. Recently the last one started leaking. Just happened to have a good coupon at the hardware used it to get a couple “good” ones. Not impressed. The implement end is really cheesy plastic. I hooked one up to water the lawn. The sprinkler just wasn’t putting out like it used to. Well, the super black ones not only cost more but instead of reducing flow to 3/8” they drop it to 1/4”!

I still hate them but the wife loves them. Time to make a full flow “Y” so there’s a work hose and water the flowers hose.
