So what detonated inside the gel? Did the bullet carry some powder or unburned gasses in there? I would like to see that repeated at several different distances. :shock:
OH MY GOODNESS! Now THAT is impressive.
I'm guessing (heavy on the guessing) it is a compression ignition, much like a diesel engine. The wound channel seals while the cavity is large. Then the cavity collapses and the pressure ignites the oxygen and whatever carbon is in the vapors inside.

I treasure my old S&W model 29. I carried it for years in Alaska, nowadays it just gets an outing to the range a few times a year. But it did give me a good feeling to have it with me when fishing along a river in the middle of nowhere and you come across dinner plate sized tracks that still have water seeping into them. A fine machine that one and the only .44mag I could shoot 50 rounds out of and not start flinching.
I had exactly the same thought as Dan in MI. It looks as if the gelatin dieseled!
