Yep, always have a flintlock on hand. Use it as much as possible and save cartridges for when needed.

Agreed. Would add that I keep a wrist rocket and pellet pistol/rifle behind the seat of my vehicle. My Beeman R1 is a guaranteed pot filler @ .01 per shot.
And a source of sulphur and saltpeter.

Don't forget a powerful air rifle for hunting small game. Quiet, efficient, don't attract attention. I have a few Weihrauch rifles that work well for small game.

Band together with other High Value Neighbors. If you can't control access to your area and people 24-7 manning the beltfeds you have nothing. Fortunately I'm in a semi rural area with lots of ravines that can limit access.I have neighbors with cows,chickens and horses, alpaca, and goats and pigs not too far away. I have a few acres I could turn over with the gas I have available. It can also be fenced for pasture if needed. Lots of guns between us and solar panels to charge batteries and run the wells. I'm thinking about getting a hydro generator because all I would need is a knee dam in my ravine to power my needs for when the solar panels give out.
Those are things that can be sourced in their raw state and obtained by bartering. Just like it was originally done. But flintlocks don’t need complex manufacturing like percussion caps, much less cartridges.

Not many people these days know how to collect and process sulphur and saltpeter. I have a pasture across the dirt road. Sulphur isn't prominent immediately locally. Could probably be done just more of a challenge. I've been using broken rocks for flint so no problem there. Manufacturing a Flintlock isn't as easy as it seems. Most of this has been lost. It's doable but it will take centuries before the manufacturing capabilities could be restored. When America Falls it will be another Dark Age. Greeks and Romans had indoor plumbing. My Grandparents didn't have indoor plumbing until the 1970's!!!
If America fell it would be but a ripple in human history. Unless some sort of catastrophe destroys all of our current industrial infrastructure we aren’t going back to the Stone Age.
Our infrastructure is dependent on large networks of supplies and materials. Trains, Power Lines and Pipelines. Just like Rome. Once China moves in to restore order we'll be relegated to subhuman status.

On a commercial flight years ago the subject of guns came up and the young man across the aisle said they should be outlawed because of him being robbed 3 times going to a nightclub in Old Town.

Next month I’ll be 81. Spinal arthritis means I don’t have the stamina to carry a pack for long. So, I am not bugging out. I’ll be fighting in. That fits my Marine mentality — we don’t like to retreat.
I keep a $100 Walmart 20-gauge single barrel shotgun that has been cut down and modified. It's legal length and the insert is a Chaszel 30-30. This is in an oxygen tank bag with ammo for both. If I have it slung over my shoulder with a canula and tubing going into the top of the bag nobody notices a thing. The 317 S&W kit gun is just over 12 ounces loaded with 8 rounds of Remington Yellow Jacket hollow points and is either in this pocket holster or a Simply Rugged 120 holster. This combination should take care of most situations. But if we really knew what we were up against we might want napalm and a 50 caliber Browning M2!!!

My choice for rifles would be,
My 30/30 because it's light, powerful and used for large game and protection.
My Browning BL22 because it shoots lots of different 22 ammo and for protection.
My 54 caliber muzzleloader because you can make caps, balls and powder. It can shoot ball or shot. Powerful and for protection.
My choice for handguns would be,
A 357 / 38 Blackhawk with a extra cyl in 9mm. Powerful and for protection.
A Ruger Mk 2 target pistol with a 6-7/8 inch barrel for small game and protection.
A Ruger Single Six in 22lr / 22mag for small game and protection.
And lots of ammo, spare parts and a cleaning kit and a bow with lots of arrows.
And all my meds.

That’s the beauty of living in rural Tennessee on our ranch. I ain’t leaving. We could be pretty self sufficient here. Plus we have 4 mules should we need to go anywhere local and can’t get gas/diesel.
WTF did they need to add DOG??? We called them German Shepherds for decades and everyone knew what we were talking about.
You will need more than one caliber rifle or pistol. Because if you cant get the cartridges for one you may get them for another. 3 0r even 4 different cartridges (guns) would be even better. I suggest a 22lr, a 22Mag, 380, 357, 50 cal Black powder, and a12 gage shotgun.

Like some here that probably won't be bugging out, I might be putting what is referred to as a "72-get-home-bag" together.
Light weight, portable. Water, granola bars (as Dundee would say "Tastes like crap but you can live on them"), Tarp or poncho, para cord, variety of fire starter (matches, striker type, magnifying glass), & more. But keeping it light. As for the fire arm, I don't think I'd have a long gun, & more likely be my G19 or G23 with the G17/G22 mags for reloads as needed. LCP max as back up.
Hunters or hikers would have some good suggestions for something along the 72 hour bag.
When I lived in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of MI., It was a necessity in winter. The kit would include more stuff to keep warm.

To make black powder go to castboolits.com look under stickies. Go to Lowe’s and buy stump remover (KNO3), and Sulfer flour from Coop that gets put on flowers etc. Buy stuff now, practice making it now. Make your own charcoal from the recommended wood from your area. BE CAREFUL!!! Multiple black powder factories went KABOOM!!!

No, I bought it directly from Chaszel. They make inserts of various calibers to fit both 12 and 20-gauge shotguns. Here are several in different calibers. 9mm, .357 Magnum, 45ACP and 30-30. I also have a 12 gauge cut down with Chaszel adapters. The other truck gun I forgot to mention is a Henry AR7 with several spare magazines. My truck is equipped with tools and gear for any occasion either good or bad. I have 5 mounted toolboxes and a hand carry toolbox at all times with me. The bug-out items are in the locked boxes in the cab of my truck. The truck is always locked and in a well lit area under camera surveillance both at home and work.
