GunnyGene, that line about being the "rabbit, not the wolf" did make me rethink my stance a bit. Although my goal is to avoid conflict, I tend to have the mindset that having a firearm gives me an edge. It's good to be reminded that MANY will have firearms when crazy times hit, and I would do well to act as a prey, not an equal predator.
As for having a bag in the truck all the time, I can't be sure that I would be anywhere near my home at a moment's notice. We had family members lose their homes due to both a fire and a tornado. A bag stocked with enough clothes and gear to get through 2-3 days would have been a blessing at that point. It buys you some time that you won't have to spend shopping for basics if the stores are closed and the power is off. It's not all about having everything you need, but enough 'insurance' to make you feel better.
