Buffers

I have saw differing post on buffers for various guns, 10/22, mini 14, 1911s & others.
Do they help, hurt or even matter? My thinking(dangerous for me) is that it stops 2 metals from slamming together. So does it matter, if it does why don't the manufacture's install?
Don't want to start a war, just want info.

My Deerfield rifle cam with a rubber buffer installed at the factory. I have a spare just in-case.

The Remington 1100's came with a nylon buffer in the back of the breech bolt.
Most semi auto gun designs don't include one. The 1911 ,for example, is a system,
When the load power level is matched to the recoil spring,as the design calls for, you can't hardly wear one out. Run souped up ammo with the stock spring and bad things can happen.

On the Mini-14, Ruger's idea of a "buffer" is a steel cross-pin which transfers the impact load from the recoil shield to the receiver. I've seen both parts break clean in two.
I presently have a Wilson 1911 buffer installed in mine. I guess you could call it a buffer to buffer the factory buffer. :lol: . :lol: . :lol: .

Yeah, Ruger could have done better.
But hey, they could have done a lot of things better. :roll: .

Yeah, the AK and it's variants are perty-dern reliable as-is.
That don't however, mean that Remington was waisting money when they chose to add a buffer to their 1100 shotguns, or that some other gun wouldn't also benefit from a properly designed buffer...

.....just sayin'.

But if the firearm is designed without one,why invent something the gun does not need other that to separate gun owners from their money?

I would not put a "shock-buff" in my 1911A1, period.

I wouldn't put one in my 1911A1 either....nor in any of my BHP's....nor in most guns, period.
Fact is, out of all the guns which I've owned, there's only been three which have a buffer, and two of those came equipped with one from the factory. On the other one, it's there because I've seen parts failures in identical guns which are related to what I can only perceive to be a weakness in the factory design.

I hope that better explains my position on the matter.
