I have a Blackhawk 45LC and have replaced the basepin, basepin latch springs, cylinder latch spring and plunger, pawl spring and plunger and the hammer plunger spring and plunger. When I got this pistol the hammer plunger was gone. When I reassemble it and try to cock it, the hammer plunger snaps in two. Are there different lengths of plungers depending on serial number? or am I doing something wrong during reassembly?? All advice appreciated.

Mollydodger, Welcome to the forum! Evidentily your plunger is either too long, the hole in the hammer too short or there is debris in the hole keeping the plunger from retracting the proper amount. Check for "free" movement of the "cylinder latch" you replaced also! If there is "not" free movement of it, "that" is your problem. The diameter of the plunger is approximately .093 or 3/32". You can get a 3 foot length of 3/32" drill rod from your local Industrial Supply for about $1.50. Brownell's has an 18" piece for $3.00! You can make a lot of "plungers" from this rod! If you find everything I mentioned above to be "kosher", then you need to make your own custom size plunger to fit your revolver. These are very easily made by cutting the rod to the right "length" and filing the "notch" for the cross pin. It's a "cut & try" endeavor. It's not a difficult job at all. Let us know what you find!.....................Dick

Thanks to all who responded to my problem. I bought a 3/32 drill bit and using my dremel tool made another. The first try I used the same length as the Brownell replacements that kept breaking. I found it to bind just like the Brownell ones. I began to gradually shorten the plunger in increments of .010 inches and after taking about .040 inches off it works like a charm!!! I truly appreciate everyone's help on the forum!!!!
