Break Free Powder Blast & Polymer Frame

Has anyone besides myself ever used Break Free Powder Blast to clean their Ruger polymer framed guns?

I was tired of cleaning the lead out of two gun barrels (R1 1911 & P345) and decided to try finishing up the guts of the P345 with a little Break Free. It did a wonderful job of cleaning, however, the frame turned white in the areas that Break Free got on it.

I did not have it on the frame more than 30-45 seconds before I wiped it away. I wiped it down with Remoil and it looked fine for a few minutes before turning white again.

Does anyone know of a product to return the finish to its natural color or have I ruined it?

Ouch! I've never used Break Free, but have use Non Chlorinated Brake Clean for years on my Single-Sixes and Blackhawks. I'll always remove the grips, though.

Maybe contact "Break Free" & ask them what to do,,,???

I think the problem was you used Break Free Powder Blast, not Break Free.
If all else fails you could spray paint wth Krylon Fusion.
There are products to restore black plastic automotive trim that have turned white from weather, wax, etc. Back to Black is one. I think it is silicone based though and may make it hard to hang on to your pistol.

I use Break Free CLP. Never had a problem on my P95. I've never seen Break Free Powder Blast. Good luck.

29, Try some Armor All on a small portion and see how it works. I have used it on synthetic stocks to replenish them. As noted above, it has good results on automotive plastics and synthetics that turn white with weather!...............................Dick :wink:

I fixed one just last week by using Armor-All TIRE FOAM. Just spray a little on a rag and wipe it on the affected areas. Then take an old tooth brush (soft) and brush it in very well in the checkered area.

Let it dry good, then reapply. Do this 4 or 5 times.

Thanks to everyone for your replies and suggestions. I'm going to share the following on two of my other favorite gun forums.

I contacted ruger and they suggested the product, 'Birchwood Casey - Stock Rejuvenator'.

I ordered the product online and it finally arrived Saturday. Thankfully so, the product worked extremely well. Sprayed it on the synthetic frame and buffed with a cloth to a surprisingly good finish.

The frame looks as new and I am extremely pleased with the result.
