Put 100 rounds of PMC fmj through today. Like this gun more than the xd40 I traded in. Excited to get a 1000 rds in an give another review. I see too many bashing reviews on this gun and most haven't even shot it.

The bashing may be coming from those feeling a bit simple after spending much more on something else then realizing they received much less.

Put a lot of reAding in and decided it was useless. I bought what felt the best. S&w md or sr9 was in price range and sr9 felt much much better. Hard to tell so soon, but I had a flawless first time out.

Chad,

There's only two things about my SR40:
1. I pull the trigger.
2. It goes bang.

When I picked it up at the dealers, I bought it on the spot.

My neighbor didn't feel the same way about hoisting two pounds of gun.
She bought a LC9, it's nice too.

Ah, the old "Just bought a new SR9 and surprisingly I really like it a lot!" thread.

Well, don't feel badly. I just bought an SR9, and I like it a lot, also. That was almost three years ago, now. In fact I like it more than a lot. Like anything, it's not everyone's cup of tea but the people who like the gun and feel comfortable with it know why they feel that way:

1) Really great ergonomics, pointability and shootability and feel in the hand. This depends on the hand, of course. I love the way the SR9 fits mine.
2) Reliability - mine's still running great and I stopped counting at around 1500 rounds. I shoot it, I clean it, I shoot it some more and I don't worry about it.
3) Safety - there are people who want and like and appreciate the features, I'm one of them.
4) Price - couldn't find a better new pistol for the price I bought mine for.
5) Ruger service - I know if anything goes wrong, Ruger will ship it and just fix it without any drama, and probably for $0.00.

Enjoy the gun, shoot it well, shoot it safely, and feel good about your purchase. It's a solid, comfortable, redundantly safe and modern 9mm pistol at a great price.

Totally agree nixie. I gave up on reviews bc every gun out there has a 50/50 following. You love it or hate it. Also tired of the clowns who are too cool and experienced for safety features. You don't like them that's fine, but don't rate a gun over it features when the overall dependability is good.

I was in a similar boat as alot of other folks I think. I have alot of more expensive 9mm service pistols and have always stayed away from the SR9 because of the reviews I heard about the "teething" issues of the early models. I gave in a couple of months ago when I was offered a good deal on one and now wonder what took me so long?! It's turned into one of my all-time favorite pistols.

The SR9 is the single best pistol I've ever owned. Flawless performance and the only pistol that I've owned that is more accurate is the S&W 639-which-cost more than the SR9 in 1988. Along with the 639, the SR9 is a keeper.

Well let's put it this way: I don't call anyone names, but the SR9 was my second handgun and as a result I learned its safety features as part of my learning to shoot handguns, and those things just became second nature to me a little more easily. It's hard to "unlearn" training and I understand that. I think it's easier to acquire skills than it is to un-acquire them. Once you've learned to ride a bicycle you won't easily forget how, for example. I watch Hickok45 shoot guns with manual safeties and he is a big Glock person, and he often forgets to turn the safeties off on the manual safety guns he shoots for his video channel. That's how he's trained himself, it's not a character flaw or anything, and I certainly can't shoot as well as he does - not least because I don't have a big firing range in my back yard ;).

Also, I like the redundant safety features because although you will not find it recommended in the manual (and I don't recommend it myself), when I first bought my SR9 there were several weeks when I (unfortunately) had a good reason to sleep with it literally under my pillow, with a round in the chamber. I absolutely wanted a pistol that was going to take an extra operation to fire in that instance: turning the safety off in addition to fully sweeping the trigger and disengaging the striker block. Yet, at the same time, if you train with it a little, it's ready to fire with a flick of the thumb. At the time I was very, very glad to have the manual safety in addition to the striker block, the mag. disconnect and even the honkin' big loaded chamber indicator, which I could feel in the dark. I wanted no noise. I wanted a gun I could make ready to fire by putting my hand on it and moving a lever, and yet it wouldn't easily "change my mind" as it were. I had a good reason and 'nuff said. Now it's second-nature to me.

There are plenty of people with different things in mind in terms of their use, their training, etc., and I respect that - I don't take it personally.

I think most of the bad reviews were from early production SR9's that had several issues like barrel peening and mag release problems. Ruger quickly resolved those issues and even did a recall on the early ones. Most of the reviews I've seen since then have been pretty good. No issues with mine.

Shot another 150 rds of PMC full metal jackets. Lol I want to try other brands but its a little tough right now. Anyways, no problems at all at 300 shots total

I shoot and carry the SR9, SR9c, SR40, SR40c LC9 and LCP, but mostly carry the SR40c and they are all rock solid pistols. They are accurate and 100 % dependable, i can't remember when any of them has had a problem with any type of ammo. They might eventually have a problem if not maintained, but when cleaned and lubed every few hundred rounds they just never fail.

I have had my sr9c for about 4 months only about 250 to 300 rounds in but I love it and am planning on doing ccw with it everyday I hope you enjoy yours too
