Finally bought a P85 after all these years

I finally bought a P85 after all these years of wanting one. I remember when the P85 was going through the military trials and how well it performed. I was disappointed the M9 got the nod and not the Ruger. When I was issued a Beretta in the Army, it all came back to me and I wanted one again. On an army salary with a young wife I couldn’t swing one as my gun budget was putting about 20 bucks a week in my sock drawer. I eventually forgot about them again until someone was selling one on here.
At 3:30 this morning I was laying in bed solving world problems trying to go back to sleep and decided to check out gunjoker. I placed a bid and won at the starting bid today at noon without no other bidders. Now I’m wondering what I don’t see wrong with it. Guess I’ll see when it gets here.

She looks good to me with box, mags and paperwork for $250 plus shipping.

Fantastic buy! Great pistol!....and unless my eyes are deceiving me it looks like it wasn't sent back for the recall (You would see a MKII or MK2 stamped on the safety).

Ruger didn't have it ready in time for the initial trials. But it was submitted when the trials were redone...Beretta "won" both......if it were me running the Army Ordnance Dept my nod would have gone with the Sig 226....but at the time I was a young pipsqueak Navy Ordnance type.....

Enjoy that P85!

No argument from me, the Sig 226 would have made a fine sidearm for the Army. I would have also been just fine if they would have stayed with the 1911!

Just to stray off this thread... and make a comment about the Sig P226.... I'm bringing two or three to Contenders's tomorrow and folks if they are interested will see how versatile that pistol is.... 9mm, 40cal, 357sig.... the only pistol easier to change calibers on is the Sig P239.

It's a solid option. I agree totally on the Versatility of the Sig. Tanfoglio had them beat with their 9mm-45 CZ75 clone though which IMO will never be topped. The P85 will always be reliable as a brick and carry like a brick as well.

Well, I called the gentleman to pay him and I must have something about me in my voice that says “I bet I can sell this guy another gun”!
He made me a deal on a second P85 that is a 1988 production gun that also has not been back for the safety conversation that I had to take. No box and paperwork and has some scratches but I figured two bricks are better than one!

Picked up the p85’s, the boxed one is as clean as a new gun, the other is in pretty good shape as well. Both have the old style slide release. Looking forward to trying it out
The pictures you posted don't show the old release lever?
The old lever is like the link I posted above.

The old style is a bit longer and very thin. I got it because of looks more than anything. And I am a P-nut so wanted a 85 that was as close to the original as possible for my modest collection.

Rescued a Ruger P89 about 2 weeks ago from a local pawn shop. Price was on the high side but after examining the gun closely, appeared to be tiptop shape with no visible wear nor rust. Came with Hogue rubber finger groove grips but ordered some authentic plastic Ruger grip panels from MidwayUSA; perfect fit @ $6 a pair. It's a beast but love shooting it.
