I'm looking at an SP101 with a bobbed hammer and want to know how big a job is it to put a regular hammer in it?? Also a smith in western mass that could do it. Thanks---------------- Stash

Is that a snubby with the 2" barrel? I think that's the only ones they made with the bobbed hammer.

It's not much work to put a regular hammer in but I'm not sure why you'd want to if it's a snubby. They aren't good for much but self defense and you really don't want to use single action in defensive scenarios...too much potential for losing an "accidental shooting" lawsuit even if the shooting was intentional and justified...

I'd spend the money for a good action job instead so the DA pull is smoother and lighter...

Just my $0.02, of course,
John

Thanks OP....... Plan on picking it up regardless of the hammer. I'll try it as is before I redo it. Thanks again Sir.......... Stash

Because Ruger doesn't sell parts that they say need to be fitted at the factory there are not many SP-101 hammers on the market. You might be able to find one on the forum in the classifieds or at Numrich http://www.gunpartscorp.com/ because they sometimes have used parts for sale but it might be smarter to just buy an SP with the regular hammer as they were by far the most popular model.

Went to the shop yesterday. It's still there. Has been worked on by Ruger. Trigger job and the cylinder got milled for clips. Did pick up a cool Helwan though.
