Found a black hawk in 45acp....

It's the short barrel with significant scratches in the ejector rod housing under the barrel... It's the new model... I didn't know they made one in only ACP... Or did the guynjust lose the Long Colt cylinder?

The scratches are pretty bad but the would be a gun I'd take out and not worry about it getting a ding or two in the long run.

Asking price in $280 and I'd have to drive a bit to meet the

guyhttp://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc376/jl1966/DSCF1334.jpg

If this a scent deal I'll make the drive but thought I'd get some opinions.... Because I am looking for a black hawk convertible in 45... What are those selling for rite now new?

Thanks donut

I think the guy lost the .45 Colt cylinder. I'm not aware they ever made any just in .45 acp. I bought a new one recently in SW Illinois for I think $480 plus tax. I would think $470-500 would be in the ball park most places. Just a guess.

Nope,, never offered in 45 ACP only. The 45 Colt cylinder is missing. There was a Colt cylinder for sale within the last week or so here in our classifieds. At $280,, it's a fair deal. But,, to replace the lost cylinder would be around $100. So,, use your bargining skills,,,!

Ok thanks guys... That is what I was thinking about the other cylinder... Yeah I'm gonna have to talk to him and see what he can do because he is like 4 hours away and imnot driving all that way for the gun.

Thanks again

That ejector housing looks rough but if that is the only issue with the gun I think I would buy that gun for that price. A four drive might be a bit far (what is your time and gas worth) but if I was to walk into a shop and see a gun like that for $280 I think it would go home with me and I would shop for a 45 Colt cylinder.

As an aside, I shoot a fair amount of 45acp out of my 5.5-inch Acusport and it shoots plenty well enough to allow me cheap practice without having to reload 45 Colts --- time has been my biggest issue.

Looks like a good project gun to me - JMHO.

You can buy a new in box from Acrylictnk on Rugerforum a lot cheaper than driving four hours and have both 45colt and acp cylinders! And it would be shiny with no scratches!!!! :D
$475 give or take a few$$

Yup, four hours away is figure about 500 miles roundtrip, maybe more. At 20 miles per gallon and $3 per gallon that's at least $75 in gasoline alone, plus wear and tear on your vehicle, plus 8-10 hours of your time, plus 280 for the gun equals at least $355 for the gun plus your time and you would still have to find a .45 Colt cylinder for it and probably pay to have it fitted. You can buy a new one for around $500 including tax. It might be a better buy for someone closer to the sale.

I would offer to meet him half way and pay the 280, 45lc cyl are all over the place out there, its the 45acp cyl that is hard to find at a resonable price.

Maybe the guy blew up the 45 Colt cylinder. Check the gun over well.

Good point! So, what could you measure or inspect to tell if the frame was damaged in that event?
If an egg smells rotten, just leave it alone. Sometimes we need to follow our senses and not look back.

Don't count on a .45 Colt cylinder picked up separately to just drop in, you'll probably need it fitted, more money.

Donut you have the darnedest luck. The .45ACP only is great if the gun it's self is sound. If the ejector housing is rough it's made of alloy and can be replaced by a steel one. A good quality alloy gripframe can be sold. I think the balance is off with with the alloy gripframe and always replace them with steel. You may want to put a Super hammer and new trigger on it too sometime in the future. The weight makes for a steady shooter.

As stated above buying a used handgun is a matter rational progression. I just may cost to much money to repair a cheap gun. My first impression from your comment is who needs the other cylinder. The ACP cartridge was developed by JMB to replace the Blackpowder round for the modern self loader. One of the criteria was it's ability to founder a horse. The 1911 is a horse mans gun. k Calthrop

well as i am on vacation this weekend i dragged my feet a little too much. the gun has been sold. In all honesty i really did want the gun and still do want a blackhawk mainly for the .45 acp which wudda been perfect. and the gentlemen sellin would have drove an hour so it still would have been a decent day trip for me.

oh well, ya win some ya lose some... just wish it was closer and it would have been mine. I guess im gonna have to get rid of my 229 so i can try and get one of the convertibles in .45 now

and yes Calthrop my firearm luck has been going pretty well as of late hopefully it keep up.

thanks for all the help guys
