new to the forum, and I need some help on my new purchase. I lucked up the other day and found a Blackhawk .45 lc in it original red box with it's paperwork intact. Serial # 46-08495. A fairly old one. Its very clean, not perfect, but a great shooter. I would say its about 95%, with a small amount of rust at the end of the barrel (where it had laid in its box). I got it for $200 dollars out the door. It was a pawn shop that generally doesn't carry handguns, and they knew I liked .45 pistols. They just wanted it out.
Now for the bad news. It had a set of old non ruger grips on it. I found a set on Ebay and bought them. Well they don't fit. How do I figure out which grip I need ? I have done some reading on this forum and apparently they arequite a few different sizes. My gun is marked NXR3-RED on the left side of the grip frame.. Where can I get a set of original grips for it ?

Welcome to the Forum!
Place a WTB ad in our "classifieds" for a set of grips.
Basically you have a "young" New Model Blackhawk. (There are older guns,,, known as Old Models.)
At $200 you did quite well for a good shooter!
So, just place a WTB ad for a set of NXR3-RED grips!

Actually there are not quite a few different sizes. Take a look at the drawing below. Since it's inception, Ruger has used only three different size plow handle type grips. You don't say how the grips you bought don't fit so I really don't know what you purchased.

Your gun uses the XR3-RED profile grips. That is anything advertised to fit the Vaquero or Blackhawk.

Apparently I bought some old Super Blackhawk grips. The drawings that caryc posted let me compare the three sizes. They are too long for it. I might try to trade them off for the correct size. At least now I know what to look for. Thanks for all the help.

I took a look at Ebay and there are plenty of stock XR3-RED grips for the Vaquero, Blackhawk, and Single Six, all of which will fit your gun.

It's pretty easy to tell stock Super Blackhawk grips from Blackhawk grips by the medallion placement. Take a look at the photo below. The Blackhawk grip on the left shows the medallion with about the same amount of grip wood in front of the medallion as on top of it.

The Super Blackhawk grip on the right has about twice the amount of wood in front of the medallion than the wood on top of it.

A good thing to know when shopping on Ebay. Sometimes the sellers don't even label the grips correctly.
