I have a few Bisley's and much prefer the grip on them.

I enjoy shooting my Blackhawk 10mm as is but, I would much prefer having a Bisley grip on this gun.

I have searched the web and done some reading here but I ask for someone to break it down for me.

How difficult and expensive? DIY or off to a skilled shop?

Around $200 in parts. Usually $300 or more, parts & labor for professional installation.

You can do it yourself but the parts come as cast and are pretty rough. Best way is to sand it flat with the receiver and refinish the whole thing.

Or you can buy take-off parts and roll the dice with fitment.

Availability of blued hammers is problematic, as Ruger started using stainless for everything.

I would suggest sending it off to Jack Huntington, let him do a set of grips while he's at it.

If you are not super picky about the cosmetic fit,, it's an easy conversion.
Buy a take off grip frame, trigger & hammer & grips. As noted,, about $200 or so. Then, disassemble, and swap parts.
In general,, little to no fitting to make it work. Screw mounting holes,, align just fine. I have swapped a few around on my guns. Heck, I even put a stainless Bisley g/f under an OM 44 Super. (I did have to add a trigger return spring block.)
The biggest issue is often the cosmetics of the top of the "ears" of the g/f mating smoothly to the frame. It seems a lot of the g/f's are a little proud in that area. You can buff it down,, but for a shooter,, you'll never notice it.

Here is a picture of the Super I mentioned above. Everything screwed right on & worked.

If you notice that gun in the picture,, I left the Super hammer & trigger. That OM had already been customized a bit with a chopped barrel,, so I decided to put the Bisley g/f & a stainless ERH on it.
And,,, if you look, you can see the proud g/f next to the main frame at the "ears." All in the final polish of the main frame.

Buckeye,

The 10 MM convertibles are all pre 1997. That poses a slight problem fitting Bisley grips, but not insurmountable.

See my post in this thread for the details:
