Bisley Grips

Does anyone have any experience with any of the after market Bisley grips? I have a SBH Hunter and the factory grips started to delaminate where the bosses for the grip screw are. I ordered a new set from Ruger and the fit was worse than poor. 1/32" of the back and front strap protruded and there was a huge gap at the top where the grip meets the frame. Needless to say, I sent them back. I've done a repair, but would like a new set.

Best bet is to go with a set made and fitted to your grip frame. There's a few good ones, some members here. Cary C, Klamath River, 41 Magnum, Pvt Shultz, Tim Perkes.

Do you have a Bisley or a Hunter? They're two different things. A Bisley grip frame mounts to the cylinder frame differently than any other grip frame. The Hunter gf looks like a standard gf, but is longer. You will also have a more traditional looking hammer and trigger on a Hunter.

No doubt if you tried to put Bisley grip panels on a Hunter, or vice-versus, it wouldn't work too well.

OTOH, I've seen some wide variation in grip frames myself, when trying to get custom grips fit.

As I understand it, the Hunter grip panels are (supposed to be) the same size as the standard Super grips - the ones with the "Dragoon" (square-backed) trigger guard.

Damn I hate digging through my hoard. :lol: The two Bisleys I have are wearing Hogue black micarta grips. They are thicker than stock and not quite large enough for the stainless frames they are on. I have to agree if you have a chance to send the grip frame to a grip maker to fit them go for it. These work fine for me but could have a been better fit.

It is indeed a Bisley Hunter. I compared it to the frame on my Single Six Bisley and they are spot on. I need grips for a Bisley frame. Thanks for your input.

Ruger grip frames, especially BISLEYS, are all over the place. Caryc has some posts on blued and stainless grip frames that make you wonder what quality control is!

EAGLE GRIPS will custom fit their grips to your grip frame. I have several sets of their Gunfighter model and love them. Otherwise, look over the custom offerings and then get in touch with the maker. You're over $100 on most, but well worth the money. Stag goes some higher and ivory is a luxury item...got one carved set and want one or two plain sets in the near future.

The only good way to get a pair of grips that fits the Bisley grip frame well is to send your grip frame to a grip maker so the grips can be fitted directly to the frame. There was a lot of deviations over the years of the Bisley grip frame that most of us grip makers refuse to offer a standard Bisley grip for sale; instead we fit the grips to the individual grip frames.
