Bisley Blackhawk Trigger Reset Problem

Hello Ruger experts,
I just aquired a NIB Bisley Blackhawk .45 LC 51/2" ss. So far I have only dry fired it. I am having a problem with the trigger not resetting and the loading gate won't open.
If I push the trigger forward and then slightly cock the hammer I hear a click and then all is OK.
Anyone have any idea why the trigger won't reset. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

It's sounds like the transfer bar has a pinch.

Give Ruger a call, let them know it's NIB and ask for a UPS call tag. It will be back in a week or so and they will do a fine job getting it fixed.

Pull the grips and see if both legs of the trigger spring are on their tabs. If this spring is weak the trigger will not reset and until it does the loading gate can not be opened.

Take the grips off and flush it out with solvent then oil. Put a drop of oil in every opening and work the action. There is probably dried gunk or shavings in there preventing the proper function of the parts. Even better would be to disassemble and give it a thorough cleaning. :shock: :shock:

Thank you for your response. The trigger spring hooks are over the tabs but when the hammer is down the spring moves rearward and the hooks move rearward off the tabs. When the hammer is cocked the spring moves forward and the hooks then engage the tabs.

This is how the trigger return spring fits into the Blackhawk. It should not be moving back and forth. Both legs should be hooked over the little pin and the other end should fit into the trigger properly. It works like a teeter-totter. The link will take you to an article on lowering the tension on the trigger return spring but it will show and explain the way it works. You may have a trigger return spring that is improperly installed. Is the pivot pin missing?

EUREKA!!! Jimbo you win the prize for solving my problem. The Trigger pivot pin is indeed missing. I installed a makeshift pin and all is now OK. I noticed the hole in the grip frame and it did occur to me that a pin should be there and but my 70 year old eyes missed it on the tiny print schematic Ruger provides in the manual. :oops:
I am quite well versed in the workings of my SA 1911, CZ 75B and Ruger 22/45 but this is my first wheel gun.
Many thanks to you and all the others who responded.. Very much appreciated. I knew could count on someone on this forum to provide the solution.
Now I have to go out and dig out of 20" of snow here in NH. Anyone want any?...free for the hauling. :roll:
