Big Bore GP100

Last spring I emailed the CEO about a big bore version of the GP100. To my pleasant surprise, I got a resonse from Mike a day later saying that such an animal was in the works! I didn't post anything at the time because I didn't want give away Ruger's secret. Well it looks like Jeff Quinn got his paws on one and put it on Facebook.

I agree. Now you'll have guys bitching that it's not a Mag, or 4/6" or blued or.... I'll buy one regardless, have been wanting this for a long time.

I have a Smith 696 that I will probably never part with, but have always wished was just a little bit more robust, especially at the forcing cone.

This new GP might fill the bill in that regard. 8)

I would prefer a blued 4" or 6", and i hear they will offer longer barrel lengths. But this is exciting. And like the preferences I had for a 5 shot 480, i wont let that stop me from buying one and using it. Late or not, I am thankful that Ruger is listening to someone!

Not sure it would fit. Those cylinder walls are pretty small with 44 special.

I had a 696 for a minute. Regrettably sold it. I cant justify paying the price they bring now and when one pops up i would be willing to buy i usually miss it. This will be nice.

Hi...
Been hearing rumors about this for some time.
I don't really need another .44Spl(already have three with another on order) .
I never owned a GP, although I have shot a friend's extensively.
I wish this was available in a 4 or 5" barrel length but I will probably buy one in some barrel length eventually. I will hold out as long as possible for a longer barrel, though.

Thanks Ruger for adding another gun to my must buy list.

As I am a .44 Special fan (but not really a DA fan), I might have to pop for one of these. Supplement the .44Special Bulldog duties. Those grips though ... Ugggh. Would need to find some nice replacement wood grips as rubber is just hideous on a gun . Recoil shouldn't be a problem as it is only .44 Special ... not .44Mag or .454....

Taurus already done a 45 Colt , 45 ACP ,44 Mag , 44spl & 40 S&W all on a Medium frame in different barrel lengths ..
But a GP100 is a better revolver ( my book the best ) and Ruger has a
Over build / built reputation ...

I agree. Match Champion grips would be a good choice!

I like it. Those grips look much like what is on my 3" LCRx, and that is a good thing. They are great grips for me.

Why are people so obsessed with getting one in .45Colt? A cartridge with less chamber wall thickness equals less capability. The .44Spl is THE perfect big bore cartridge for this and several other platforms. Plus no worries about chamber dimensions. :roll:

And if you want a longer barrel, stay tuned.

No room for .45 Colt, and no interest at Ruger in a .44 Mag.
It was hard enough to get 'em to go .44 Special.
I was told by a Ruger rep two years ago they didn't think a .44 Spec could be done.

I've got 2 of the 3" 431's, one blue, one stainless. Nice guns. Didn't know about the 45 Colt. May have to check into that. Thanks for the news.
