Which factory ammo was that?
BFRs are big, heavy guns. Especially the ones with the longer barrels. That makes a big difference when you compare it to a Ruger Blackhawk.
My BFR in 500 JRH recoils more than that with 440 grain bullets and a max charge of H110. You need to load that thing up! Put some 500 grainers in there.
Something like this ought to be a little more brisk:
