Just got a phone call from the "social security department" advising me that there is an investigation into illegal activity associated with my SS number and I need to call right away to avoid prosecution.

I quit answering the telephone years ago. She just rings and rings and rings now. I return calls to numbers I know. Everyone else can go to Hellen Waite.

Dunno. Might be that character on my electric tv that's going to give me a thousand a day for life! I would hate to miss out on that one.
And the old scams never really disappear. Recently I received an email claiming that he was an African prince trying to bring money into the U.S. and if I helped him do this he would pay me $125,000. I thought about responding and asking him for a photo of himself, then asking for other “proof”, then asking that he send me some American cash as a good will gesture, etc, etc. but decided to just hit “delete” instead in case the email contained some type of malware.

Got two calls like that this week, missed the first one but answered the second. Some woman with an accent, first thing she asked for was my name, I said you called me , you should know my name. Then she hung up on me, how rude. :shock:Ale-8(1) said:

My call was a little better. Guy with no strange accent and he didn't ask me any questions, just gave me the warning and the number to call. He even repeated the number slowly, for my convenience.

I'm been harassed via telephone by the IRS...from their California Annex! 209 area code.
Had one today from the "lower-your-credit-card-rates-to-zero-percent" group, which seems to call about 4 or 5 times a day. I let my Sheriff Woody (you know from Toy Story) talk to the guy with the thick Indian accent. After a "Yee-Haw", a "Where's my rope", and a "Ride like the wind Bullseye!" I got a "you (word that many rappers use in their songs that's not the "N" word)" and he hung up. I consider that a victory, LOL.
Once in a while I feel the urge to 'play' with them. I let it ring three times,then answer the phone, say nothing, and press and hold #. They immediately know that no person is at the other end.

My Dr. office has a main line, which is in my phone for my use, but it has several internal numbers I might get a callback from. I gave them permission to leave a message(HIPA), and deal with it that way.gasbag said:

Is it just me or is just about any call I get anymore is a scammer or sales stuff that may be a scam too. I don’t bother to answer unless I know who’s calling. Even my cell is getting more more junk than it used to.

Be careful how you respond on the telephone.
Apparently, a recording of a single word, uttered by you, can be used for nefarious purposes.
Possibly NOT answering or responding might be a safer choice.
