Best Re-blue touch-up product?

Greetings,

Just purchased a used NV Convertible, in great shape except for some removed blueing where the loading gate strikes the frame (a design flaw? Perhaps the gate could be cammed to avoid this?). What would be the best product to cover this very small mark? Thanks in advance.

welcome to the Forum...over the years we've tried about every make of cold blue out there, Vans, Oxpho,Birchwood casey, and on and on, and for the MOST part the one that works the MOST times on different metals and makes of guns has been 44-40 from Numrich ( world of Parts)...make sure you degrease it good and at times a bit of "heat" can and will help.....gotta try it....BUT bottom line there is NO "permanent" cold product that 'lasts' as long as you put something on it to keep it "free" of rust, heck just keep it oiled will work...and we've seen guys just use a magic marker' thats does work too, till you wipe the gun off...... :roll:

at least where you are describing the blue loss, is a bit out of the way, and should cover even better,,,,,its when its out on the middle of the barrel or the side of the reciever, you can and will have "issues" trying to make it all "blend in..."

Thanks Dan. This mark really is out of the way, and small, just a flaw on an otherwise beautiful new revolver - and will annoy me less as time goes on. And will try your suggestions. Is this ability to jam the loading gate against the frame endemic to all single-actions? I did own a SuperB back in the 1970's and cannot recall if that was the case. Cheers

There was another thread with the same question just a couple days ago. See if you can find that one--lotta good tips and ideas, and it would save us all a lot of typing. :wink:

A friend had a SBH that got surface rust pretty bad on one side from contact with wet holster on a hunt. Cleaned it up, thoroughly de-greased, and re-blued with Brownell's Oxpho Blue. Heated it under a 100 wt bulb until just about too hot to touch and used WHITE "Scotch Brite" pad to apply/buff bluing. The White ones are SUPERFINE.

When done you could not tell which side had been worked. Owner thought I had sent it out and had completely redone.
